why is zune so bad?

My friend is getting one, and I really need an mp3 player (from the club live, it was shipped before they ended it). I have a sansa m24 1 gb that completely sucks. I need a better one, and he'll send me it when it comes for $125. the problem is I hear that they suck, but I really dont know about them. so I guess my question is, why do they suck?

This should be fun....

-Its bulky as hell, its like the car battery of MP3 players in relevance to size.
-To me its also quite ugly.
-The wireless conectivity looks good, but its very restrictive, such as you cant synch, or purchase content plus "shared" songs only last for about 3 days.
-It doesnt support WMA 9.
- Forget about transfering anything you got on i-tunes to the Zune.
-Only 320-240 resolution for videos.

Well thats about it in a nutshell.

I think the control system is awkward. The round control just seems like it's designed to imitate the iPod's, while it only acts like a D-pad. (a D-pad without "autofire", if you will, so you have to hit the up and down parts a whole lot of times to go through your songs to get the one you want.) It's also pretty bulky (My Dell Axim X30 PDA is about the size of the Zune and it's not the most comfortable in jeans pockets), and apparently its DRM system isn't compatible with Microsoft's PlaysForSure program.

Get a 2nd generation iPod Nano. It's a lot smaller so you'll be more inclined to slip it in your pocket, and you'll be surprised how far even 2 gigs can go. (If you seriously have the need to bring 80 gigs of music everywhere you go you must be a DJ or an audiophile.) If all you need is music, you'll be much happier with it. Just make sure you pick up a nice set of headphones. The ones that come with it are adequate, but their frequency response isn't the greatest and they let a lot of noise through.

1. Where did you get this information? The full-size iPods have always used real hard drives, in fact the Zune's is nearly identical to the newer video iPods.

2. You can store stuff on an iPod with no modification at all.

well here are some POSITIVES!!!

1) They use an actual hard drive which means they will not burn out over the course of a few months
2) they can be used as a portable hard drive with some minor driver editing, which means you cqn carry your important files along with you in addition to your music

How is this a positive? Hard drives have moving parts and are much more prone to shock failure and failure over time as the parts wear out. I don't know who told you a hard drive was better, but they were lying.

Hey, an iPod can do this out of the box, gee wiz!

Not that he could with his Sansa, so he isn't losing anything.

Personally, I wouldn't get an ipod or zune unless it was free.
1. Everyone has them, I get a lot more attention pulling out my PSP with its monster screen than I would pulling out an ipod or zune.
2. Why do you need 30GB? Even with videos, you're only going to get through a couple movies on a charge. My PSP has a 2GB card and thats good enough for me, tough I'd like another so that I don't have to flush all my music to put movies on it.
3. It has all the good features you could want (besides a touchscreen), but Microsoft beats them in the crotch with a bat with all their "anti-piracy" crap.

So much for ease of use and good features out of the box. And people wonder why the Zune didnt catch on......Oh and yes, it IS ugly.

BTW, I'd like to state that I'm not an Ipod enthusiast or MP3 player enthusiast for that matter, I favor the good ole CD player. Its just something about having your music be tangible with the awesome album covers and booklets included, that caters to my whims.

Bulky, cheaply assembled, bad user interface design, abominable controls, and more.

I'm sorry, but MS is new to this DAP market. The zune still needs allot of fine tuning. The ease of use (interface and control scheme) of many other players from Creative's zen players to (especially) Apple's iPods are all light years ahead.

For something small and inexpensive, I'd go for a zen stone plus. For storage and durability, I'd get a iPod photo or a click-wheel (the one with the B&W LCD) iPod, when one is available on the refurbished section of Apple's online store. Otherwise, I'd go with an iPod video (also from apple's refurbished section).

From reading about it, and playing with one, I really think the zune at this point would be a regrettable decision.
