Bulletin: Sony Confirms PS3 Rumble Controller, Witnesses to Sony's PS3 "Price Drop" Immensely Weary*
Controller rumble will make its way to the PS3 for the first time, this after several lawsuits surrounding the technology.

A Sony representative confirmed on Thursday that controller rumble will make its way to the PS3 for the first time, this after several lawsuits surrounding the technology.

Kotaku's Brian Ashcraft is reporting that a Sony Computer Entertainment employee confirmed to him today that SixAxis with rumble is on the way. No other details were provided, although rumor broke earlier this week that a rumble-enabled controller would appear with the release of the new 80GB PlayStation 3 this August.

So, thoughts? Does it make you want to get the six hundred dollar PS3 with the crippled backward compatibility, or does it just make you press the "test vibration" button on whatever original PlayStation game you might be playing?

took em long enough. The PS3 isnt really that much when you consider that after calculating for inflation on the the atari 2600 cost ~$700 in 1977 and the nes cost around $400 in 1985

Not that much???? A nice computer at wal-mart is cheaper than a PS3.

I think it may be to late for rumble to help anything, I do think the price drop is going to help a lot though.

way to go sony. That was actually one of the reasons I wasn't going to buy their system. Granted that reason isn't nearly as important as others like high price and lack of interesting titles.

I do understand that other systems have cost a lot more money adjusted for inflation. But there was also a much larger reward involved in upgrading. And when you can build a computer for the same money, that looks as good or better and performs useful functions as well, it's a wonder sony and microsoft have sold as much as they have. I hadn't PC gamed since the mid-90's, but now I do again.

Wait I thought Sony said rumble would mess up the Six Axis.

I think it may be to late for rumble to help anything, I do think the price drop is going to help a lot though.

What price drop? They are discontinuing the 60 gig version and are only going to sell the 80 gig.

But they are reducing the price in order to clear out all of the 60GB PS3s first. They're still selling the 60GB PS3, it's just that when their supply runs out, the only thing left to buy will be the 80GB PS3. And it's not like all of the 60GB PS3s are already at the retailers and on the shelves, either. Sony has stated that it's still going to take a couple of months to get rid of them all (Although Reeve said that they will be gone by the end of July).

Edit: Just to clarify, I'm only talking about the American market here.

its still not a "real" price drop. just a fake one to boost sales.

In the U.S. market, the price went from $599 to $499 and will be that way until they are gone. The price was dropped by $100, in the most literal sense of the word.

Lawsuits surrounding the technology? It's just a motor with some weights on the end of it. Or are they referring to the software aspect of it?

To me a price drop is a permanent drop in the current price. Sony's current price drop is till the current 60 gig stock runs out. After that the only way to get a PS3 is for $600. Temporary price change is all it is. Don't dabble with me on the harddrive difference as well. Oh wow 20 gigs more, big wooptie do.

A close out sale isn't a price drop. Its a sale. Theres a connotative difference between the two.

I am pretty sure the lawsuit is on the motor/weights part. You can patent anything now days.

Nah it was some random ass company. Nintendo and Microsoft payed there dues for it.

*BUZZER* Wrong! Immersion owns the patents to the off-balance motor. They sued Microsoft and Sony, but only Microsoft paid them off (they pay everyone off anyway).

@Rekarp: It's a permanent price drop on the cheap model; they just happen to not be making any more of them.
