Tritons mini-laptop thread

Post by Triton »

Split from the homemade laptop thread!

well my mini laptop project is making progress, as soon as my lcd gets here i will possibly start my own thread for it. dimensions of the case i am using at present are a little over 8.5" wide 7.625" deep and a hair over 1.75" tall, the depth might change but the other two dimensions are pretty well set

WOO! won me a motherboard! my case dimensions will probably remain the same as above but the specs on this thing will kick ASS! its an advantech PCM-9831 and will have probably a 1.8GHZ Pentium mobile processor and 512mb ram! 4gb microdrive dvd rom drive built in usb wifi with 5db gain antenna a 6.5" 1024x768 res LCD and in the future 10a lipoly batteries! total investment not counting the batteries will be under 300$

Dude, just wait for a picoITX board to come out, its the only way you'll get a decent laptop for $500

Macbook > ibook (My Core 2 Duo > your Power PC but your 1.5 GB of Ram > my 1 GB of Ram)

my motherboard is 4"x5.75" . cost me 130 shipped and considering that the nano itx cost around 450 or 500$ right now and the pico will probably cost more than that i think ill pass lol.

Nice board and price Triton, pending it works better than the board I got off eBay in that formfactor.

If you're going to have a DVD drive, you might as well go with a laptop hard drive as well. I'd go with solid state if that's all the size you want, microdrives are very slow from what I've heard.

Where did you get the screen?

Are you going to start your own thread, or split this topic?

If I was him, i'd just use this thread, I mean it even has the title "Homemade Laptop".
Why is it that every time I post in a thread, it dies?

SO what are you using for batteries? My PCp eats batteries like a champ so far. I got a big daddy(8800mah) but I blew out my powersupply and waiting on a new one.
