Quick update, sadly no more LEDs, but I did manage to softmod my GC today. I used the PSO/BBA method, and used Titanik's PSUL loader to stream the bios DOL file to the GC. I tried both GCOM 2.4 and GCOS 1.5, and both worked perfectly. Using both bioses (biosi?) I managed to boot a backup copy of Ikaruga. I also managed to boot a multidisk game containing images of Ikaruga and LoZ: Wind Waker. I was especially pleased because I burnt the images on (what I assumed was) very poor media, which I got from Poundland. After reading stories of DREs and compatibility problems, I was pleasantly surprised to get the burned disks to work perfectly. The only error I got was one on Wind Waker, and that was due to a bad burn. I did tweak the POT to about 220, so that probably helped. This softmod did however convince me to buy a modchip, as it's just not practical to have my laptop constantly hooked up to the GC. It also takes a long time to load PSO, stream the files, swap disks etc. Just a few pics, to illustrate the process working.

Yeah, I love that picture
It's very PS3-fanboy baiting
@gamemasterAS
I'm not sure yet, it's between the Viper GC Extreme and the Qoob Pro. I've found the Viper for £20, and the Qoob for £25, which is pretty cheap for both. Anyone had experience of either, and could recommend one or the other? I might be swaying towards the Viper, as it's got bi-directional USB streaming, but I'm still not sure.
