Disable automatic updates automatic restart?

Is there a way to disable automatically restarting Windows when it gets updates that require it?

Basically, can I default to "Restart later"?

You could always do what I do: disable automatic updates entirely. (Do updates on Microsoft's website manually.) You won't have that problem anymore, and best of all you won't get stuck with crappy patches that wreck your computer! (IE7 as a "high priority mandatory update"? )

Honestly I don't update my machine. Don't really need to, since I only use Firefox and we have hardware routers with most of the ports turned off. XP Pro SP1a FTW!

But if you want Automatic Updates (why?!), I think there's a setting in the Security Center control panel that only alerts you when new updates are available, and only installs them when you say to.

I think thats what I had my computer set on (so I saved myself from the dreaded IE7), but after you install them, it still has the stupid restart thing. My solution was the same as bic's, just disable them altogether, I think it even made the current restart thing go away.

I set it to "Download updates for me, but let me choose when to install them." I'm hoping this works.

BTW, I've always had automatic updates on, and it didn't get IE7 for me.
