DS Homebrew/Backup Questions

My cousin just got a Max Media Player for his DS, build version 1.22. It came with the GigaPack that loads in the GBA slot, so it's not SD/CF based. I've heard you can run backups of DS games (.nds files) on this with a special program called Max Overload. I've got versions 1.0 and 1.2 of Max Overload, and tried patching various DS backups, and none of them work. They all yield the same result: Either a blank white screen, or a blank black screen. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? If you need more details, please ask, and thanks in advance!
