Yes, for me it didn't work either, specifically with Neo Geo MVS which was very dim.
Here's what you need to do. On the back of the screen, towards the bottom, there is a small 1/4" x 1/4" chip that is an amp. If you poke around you will note that this is the chip that receives the RGB and sync signals from the input connector and then turns them out. There are 4 big metal/solder pads at the input. Off of the signal coming in are a couple of resistors and straight connectors leading to the chip. If you test around, you will note that there are 100 ohm resistors leading from the input, to another transistor. These resistors drop the input signal before they go tot the IC. Short the 100 ohm resistors and the signal strength/brightness is MUCH MUCH better and works with everything. This is the only mod that worked with Neo Geo MVS RGB.

The controls on the face are jacked from an NGPC and the trigger buttons are NGCD pad/Genesis pad hybrids.
The unit I made is a supergun that can be used either as a supergun for your TV or directly as a handheld with the controls and screen built in. For the uninitiated, a supergun is a device that plugs into a JAMMA board and outputs to a standard TV through use of an RGB->S-Video/Composite/Component encoder. The unit here plugs into a JAMMA board by the big multicolored pile of wires and then to a TV. Controller ports are on the front of the unit.
It wasn't meant to be a portable in the sense that it runs on batteries and is self contained since JAMMA requires +5V and +12V and consumes a good deal of power. Also the boards come in way too many different sizes to be stuck inside a portable device. This is just a dual function unit that can be plugged in and played anywhere there's a power source.
