Largest known star...oh my god...
Now, to be lame I found this on Digg. But anywho, this is just effing scary man. I don't know if anyone knows this, but Earth is smaller than the "Red eye" on Jupiter, and Jupiter is about 90 times smaller than our sun. But now this star VY Canis Majoris is just extreme. "Roberta M. Humphreys (2006) estimates the radius of VY CMa is between 1800 and 2100 solar radii. If our sun were replaced with such a star, its surface could extend to the orbit of Saturn."

Holy guaca-f***le!
This REALLY puts it in perspective (Warning, 143kB)
Imagine that...someday God sneezes and accedently switches them, the solar system melts in nanoseconds.
Too bad it'll be a supernova in 1200 years. :p
@Below: Just used to a different forum, you can't even post a pic bigger than 640x480 or 30kB!

Imagine that...someday God sneezes and accedently switches them, half the solar system melts in nanoseconds.
But ya, that's totally rad... in that "holy crap it can kill us all" sort of way.
According to this here Wikipedia article, all life in that part of the universe pretty much ends by 3200.

It's another good size chart I guess. It doesn't have VY Canis Majoris though...

Yeah...kinda makes ya feel totally insignifficant, doesn't it?
Still tho, that's pretty durn big...and to think, that super star is still just a speck on the collosal scale that is this universe.
