Can you get slot load drives in normal PC's? I want to replace the one in this thing with 2 slot load drives? can i?

Yes, slot loading desktop drives are available. Newegg used to have a few, but not anymore.

Why bother with them? Slot load drives cost more without offering any more functionality than a standard tray drive.

I feel the need for them, i have always used them, and i find them easier to use, i looked on newegg, were else?

My friend works at a computer store that has slot-loading CDROM drives for about $5. Problem is, they are just CDROM, no burners or DVD drives. Also, I'm now living about 80 miles away from him. Maybe I could pick one up in about a month when I go home next, but knowing my luck I'd forget.

*Glances at old laptop* This one seems to have a DVD-R slot load drive, are they usable? The mac OEM ones?
