Interest check: Steampunk NES

Post by Tobias Strauss »

Let me explain what I'm talking about. I've done some small scale modding before, including a successful but ugly-as-hell PS1p. Well, my wife and I were cleaning out the shed and we found our old NES. I took a good hard look at the thing and thought "huh, where is it written that electronics have to look all futuristic, plastic, and essentially out of place in any living room in America (and presumably parts of Europe)?" So I started tearing the NES apart and steampunking it out.

The project is about 90% done now. I have a few more smallish details to do before I'm willing to put up any pictures or anything. But I can say that I've invested about $70 in parts in the thing (not counting the NES itself). It's very un-Ben Heck in that the finish product will be substantially larger than the original--I'm going for the sort of style a small case simply couldn't provide. In a way, the steampunk NES is intended to be more 'art' than 'NES in a different case LOL!!!" It is and will continue to be fully functional, however.

So my question is, would anyone in these parts ever buy something like this? How much should I ask? Or should I just wait until I can show off the finished product?

I would be greatly interested in some pics of the finished product, if your going to sell it perhaps the brassgoggles forum would be a better venue, steampunk rules!

Cool, I'll check that out. I just wanted to check around here first because I'm a MAJOR Ben Heck fan. :)
