image/file uploading

Post by KurTecH »

first thing tomorrow, we will be adding and testing the file upload option. this should enable both image uploads and other file uploads.

keep the functionality feedback commin..! keep in mind this is a fresh wiki install an will require some fine-tuning along the way.

hey guys um... why is that on the "Gameboy overview" page? its supposed to be more like a general overview of what a gameboy is with links to articles on how to hack gameboys up and such.

in that context maybe the infobox there makes a bit more sense... like the "units sold" field

you can make your own infobox template for portables with fields that are more appropriate if you would like.

and get the bigboy advance onto its own page, linked to from the overview.

thanks.

cut and paste the code to make the current infobox, but in the first line, change the word "console" to something like "portable".

when you PREVIEW the page, you will then have a red link to the page on which you have to make the template. it will be called

http://wiki.benheck.com/index.php/Templ ... ox_Console

except the word "console" would be whatever you put.

then copy the code from the console one to make your new one, basically.

I was basically planning to rip a lot of information off of other wikis.

no one can really profit from whats on a wiki, so its not really morally wrong IMO. plus none of it could possibly be copyrighted (if you follow the rules anyways).

It might be polite to ask first in some cases though.

Or to 'paraphrase' ;)

like what bic said about copying. Why reinvent the wheel eh?

Well, I corrected some stuff on the N64 page, then registered. I have a few suggestions. One, I think the "Gameboys" page should be split into the various Gameboys that have been released (GBO, GBC, GBA). Two, any and all mods/portables should have their own page, with references to them where they apply. Ex: "The Famicom Twin has been used in several SNES projects, including that of Turbo Tax 1.0's Super Portendo.", having "Super Portendo" be a link to a page solely about Turbo's project (probably mostly written by Turbo himself). If there become too many to list in a sentence, we should have dedicated pages such as "List of portables utilizing the mini SNES".

These are just suggestions, and I hope to help out with the wiki wherever necessary. I hope that wiki.benheck.com will become the ultimate console hacking resource on the internet.

Also, should we also show software mods, such as PSP custom firmwares and Xbox modchips?

I gotta say, this setup is pretty dysfunctional, in my opinion. I like the layout of the wiki Skyler set up better. It's a lot farther along, he's been working on it for a while now.

yea, ive been helping skyone out with his wiki lately. he doesnt have a ton of info yet but its pretty nicely laid out and with only a few people to start out with (me CTfan and sky at present) we dont have all the issues of everybody wanting to help at once and noobs who dont know anything filling it with junk or anything yet. i think we are going public with it shortly! nothing like a little competition eh

Nah, just hardware stuff (excluding modchips).

And by "going public" you mean telling people where it is? Because my first guess was right: http://wiki.skytroniks.com :P

As for competition, this could benefit everyone, but as they are wiki's, they could both turn into practically the same thing, and that's no fun.

Modchips can help with a portable too. dkap01 used one to eliminate the use of a DVD drive in his Xboxp, making it smaller.

So, I don't know, software mods, I think, should be limited to helping out with hardware (Gamecube CF mod=good, SNESstation on a PS2=bad). Just my opinion though.

Well modchips are kind of out of the question, seeing as Ben has been very vocal up to this point on not including them in things he's affiliated with. And as for the wiki thing, I agree that we shouldn't have them evolve into the same thing, which is why I think we should have a vote, preferably early, so we don't have that happen. Just my two cents.
