xbox help

Post by specter539 »

i've got 2 xboxs, and one has a broken cd drive. I figured i'd make a portable out of the broken one, so i tried to softmod it so i could use a laptop cddrive/ working drive. while i was doing this i messed up the bios (or so i think) and i dont know how to fix this problem. I think i might have to reflash the bios with the normal xbox stuff to make it normal again, but i dont know where to get something that would do it.

You can't screw up the BIOS with a softmod. How did you softmod it?

well i had my friend helping me. we did the one where you have the 007 game and you hook up a thumb drive with a drag and drop program to move the files. it worked on the xbox that was connected to online, but the one that has the broken cddrive it just crapped out. It might be that we erased some of the files on the harddrive too. do you know any way to reformat the harddrive to work with the xbox again?

I'd say it's pretty much screwed without a working DVD Drive. But if you have the patience and the knowledge of where to find Xbox BIOS and you know the Keys for the Xbox then get the BIOS, Hook the HDD upto your PC, And use a program to format it to FATX and possibly try to install evoX onto it. But I think you're screwed :P

He means the hard drive key. Every Xbox's hard drive is locked to that particular Xbox. In order to have a hard drive work with that particular Xbox the hard drive needs to be "locked" to the hard drive key that is found on the EEPROM. Not sure how you'd go about dumping the EEPROM without a disc drive though. :?

i would just use the disk drive from my other xbox..duh..thats how i got it that way to start with. i just swapped the drive into the broken one and tried to put Linux on it or something. My friend mentioned something about he unlocked the drive or something. i have no clue. i still have the harddrive.

another after thought. if i get my xbox working, i will be making an xbox laptop, following closely to ben's 360 laptop. my hardest thing to do to it (after fixing the bios stuff) will be the power supply. I think i will just cut some wires and extend it away from the laptop itself (like ben did). also where would i get a keyboard that would work with just the xbox. donations of the keyboard/knowledge/screens would really be sweet

If he unlocked the hard drive, you're screwed. Only a hardmodded Xbox can read an unlocked drive. You'll need to get a modchip.
