Blu-Ray gains even more ground in the HD war.

I still think Blu-Ray will win, mainly because of its storage capacity. Blu-ray single layer discs hold 25 gigs, HD-DVD single layer discs only hold 15 gigs. (Double those values for dual-layer discs.)

In this week's Best Buy flyer, they're advertising a 40" LCD HDTV bundled with a PS3 game, a Blu-Ray disc, and a PS3 for $2,085 or something like that. Even the PS3 by itself is a relatively cheap Blu-Ray player, when you consider you have to buy a 360 and the HD DVD drive for it. (To get a comparable, full HD setup you need the Elite and the HD DVD drive , which cost just under 700 dollars together. No, I'm not being biased here; the Elite is the only 360 model with HDMI, and I'm matching features.

The little silver layer on top of the disc which stores the information deteriorates, rendering the disc useless over time. I have an old Windows 95 disc that's starting to go, and sadly a QuickTime demo CD from MacWorld Boston ('90?) has deteriorated enough to be useless.

I have some rare ones in here, a few have that... i googled it.. maybe making images of all of them in a hood idea. Many of the Cd's I have are old and worn out, many from different homes, i have the original 95 floppies even.

Go figure.

Its also fun having a teacher that gets discounts from at dick smith. 40% off everything, no exceptions. I buy all my expensive stuff through him now. Much cheaper.

I think he means that with the internet. All physical media will die out. (and replaced with downloads)

I doubt that that will happen very soon. I have a fast internet connection, but I would never be able to stream HD on this. It would have to look like crap for normal people to use. By the time that Digital downloads become reasonable, Blu-Ray will have gone through it's life cycle and will be ready to retire anyway.

I don't think so. Until I get a fiber optic line for my internet connection installed any video beyond DVD is going to be huge and really kind of pointless to download. Most people want their content now and not later. A single layer Blue-Ray will be about 25GB, I've downloaded a file (via bittorrent) that size once, it took about two weeks.

I think out of both Blue-Ray has the most potential. Experiments have shown they could get 8 layers on a single disc, HD-DVD can't boast that. However 'm not interested in either as they both are too expensive for players, too expensive for as storage media and I don't have an HDTV so what's the point until i get that? As I see it the true winner is not who is used most by the movie industry, it's who's most vertical. If you can be spread into more then one area and be good in them then you have more general usage. Why do you think CDs and DVDs were greats? They were used for a large number of applications.
