Laptop screwed

My [high voice]DADDY[/high voice] brought home an old laptop from his work. Unfortunately it is screwed. The problem seems to be the screen, but it isn't. It starts up fine and works perfectly, but when windows open and popups appear and are minimized, a pixelated mark is left behind. It has been hooked up to other monotors and opened up, but the problem cannot be found. Any help here dudettes.

Sounds sorta graphics card related, what do you mean minimized?

If possible try booting a live-CD (Linux or otherwise) and check to see if you get the same problem. If you don't it's a graphic driver problem, likely the proper driver is missing and needs to be installed. If you can't find a way to install the driver I'd say back up any useful information about the system and reinstall the OS.

If you have the same problem with the computer even when booting the live-CD I'd have to say it's likely hosed. Gut it for useful parts and recycle the rest.

The hardrive was switched with a laptop of the same type that worked, but the problem still occured. Also it isn't the screen because it has been hooked up to other monotors and the same problem occurs.

EDIT: sorry 'bout the double post but can someone help?
