After HD?

Probably HD with better color depth. Some where about 16 bits per channel. And more channels than just RGB so we can have more realistic colors with a wider range.

eventually the human eye will be the limiting factor. So I vote for a jack in the back of the head a-la Matrix style.

The resolution is as good as it needs to be. If standard defenition lasted so long, I see no reason it won't be the same with HD. They still have plenty of stuff to work on like contrast ratios, color depth, refresh rate, response time, thinness, efficiency, perfecting OLED technology, and lots more to keep developers busy for a long time before another breakthrough, if there will be one. Maybe in the distant future, displays will stop using pixels and start being more like lit up moving photographs.

Aside from some refinements of existing technology, I think the next big step in actual TV technology will be displays lacking pixels as we commonly know them. The term "resolution" would no longer apply, but we could think of it as infinite resolution tv.

I see TV/display wallpaper containing OLED's and displaying images/videos wherever you want at whatever size on the wall coming in the next decade. Closely following that will be OLED paint. Imagine setting an image for your car or home's appearance the way we set desktop wallpaper today.
