Fed up!

Post by HotDog-Cart »

Im fed up with this AptonBook XL.

It has way too many problems. When playing a game, browsing web, listening to music it will freeze for 5-15 seconds.

Its kinda hott in my house, and when ever I'm playing a game (or sometimes just using internet) my computer will turn off. Sure its been on for like 5 hours, but this laptop is supposed to have "high quality fans, on the side, so that it doesnt overheat like most laptops with fans on bottom".

The laptops on a hard surface, and it gets quite hott also. Hot enough to burn me! The touchpad (the mouse) gets pretty warm too. Not burning warm, but it feels weird. I paid $2000 for this laptop, and I expect it to work. Heck my crappy IBM thinkpad never overheated like this.

This computer also doesnt turn off properly. Like when I click "Turn off my computer", it will shut down all my wireless and such but just stay on the desktop. Then I have to click "turn off my computer" again, for it to shut down.

My laptop is still under warranty. I'm going to go send it in to MDG tomorrow. I have a few questions though.

Will MDG give me a BRAND new Aptonbook XL?

I ask that because, these errors are obviously from hardware, and not software. So reinstalling windows or and stuff isnt going to make a difference. (I've tried).

I dont want them to take my laptop away for like 2 weeks, "work" on it, and send it back to me, and then I end up with the same problem again.

I think this is a faulty laptop, probably 1 in 1000 or so that got messed up while on the construction line.

Thats why I feel getting a new aptonbook xl will fix this problem.

I'm assuming that by crappy he meant slow. I know my Thinkpad (300MHz, 160MB RAM, 6GB HD) could take a lot more physical punishment than most newer laptops.

Anyways, I think the problem could just be the fact that its a high performance laptop. Theres just too much heat in a small space. My friend's dad has a P4 laptop that overheats when its used on a flat surface, it has to be propped up to run. One of those laptop coolers might help (the ones with the fans on bottom).

If it's under warranty the most likely thing they'll do is repair the problem. If by a slim chance they can't fix the problem, lack the necessary parts, or your warranty states they do make whole replacements, then you could get a completely new computer. However that is a slim chance, and even if you do get a new one they will only supply you with one that is of equal or less value of your current model (new).

Go there expecting to get your system repaired, if you do get a full replacement great, but don't go in thinking that is what you'll get. The chances are not high.

if you find it to be not broken, you could always try to update all your drivers. that happens to me sometimes.
