Just wanted to say that I'm probably going to finish today, but I won't have time to put up pictures until Sunday. (Note the probably though...)

Minor imperfections and overlooked problems really suck, don't they?

I will be done 3-4 days after I get my controller shell. Guaranteed.

Wow! It has been a while! But I'm still here, trucking along!

Did some controller soldering, but because of the 2 EDIT: Musicals I'm in I still haven't had a lot of time, despite the fact that it is finally summer! Oh well. I'll finish it sooner or later. Pics when I have time, but I'll probably only put end result pictures...cuz I'm lazy.

I know what you mean, man. I'm not in any plays, but I do musicals, and they can be VERY time-consuming, and especially hindering to the progress of portablizing.

I remember the only time I ever tried to work on modding between scenes in the dressing room, someone just HAD to play with the soldering iron and burn their costume.

Good luck though, man, hopefully you can budget your time to finish this thing soon!

CTF are you serious?

Last time I had that sort of experence was when i 'happened' to have a soldering iron in my bag, and somone snapped one of the fittings on one of the sets, handy huh? Fixed 5 min before it was used, bliss.

Yep, dead serious! I originally brought it to fix the speaker in the boy's dressing room that had been broken since 1997, evidently.

So after fixing that, I started relocating electrolyc capacitors on the SNES mobo! See, soldering irons CAN be handy if carried constantly in a backpack!

From then on I carried a mini gas one with me at all times, alas, this was borrowed and never returned, the person no longer lives in australia, so no hope left. I am in the market for another though, that thing rocked.

Handy for all times.

I got a cold heat soldering iron as a gift. It's big (for a portable one) and not too great. Are the butane ones significantly better?

Ok, a few things...

1. Yay CTF for being a fellow solderer-in-between scenes! I worked on by battery pack during a production of The Will Roger's Follies. PS: CTF, I am (eventually) going to start a thread in forum 42 about theater!

2. I am WAY behind schedule, but I'm not surprised. I know that the N64 was probably a bad choice for a first portable, but you know what - I actually still play the N64. Like, A LOT!

3. I am going to try to get some pictures going, maybe even today, but I want to keep my final design idea under wraps until I finally finish...maybe some soldering pics, wrecked N64 case pics, etc. Let's just say this thing is going to be small, but not compacted on the inside or missing features...

4. Where the heck do you people get your heatsinks - this is holding me up. I got one off an old computer, but the radio shacks by me don't sell heatsinks, and neither do other electronics stores...I haven't had a chance to go to Halted, but...

5. And finally, I am proud to say that I have worked on my portable this week! YAY! But I still have lots of work to do.

My local thrift store usually has a few heatsinks (all their computers are parted out unless they're newer), so check thrift stores for computers or just the sinks.
If you need me to I could get one or two for you, the sinks are about $3 each at my thrift store, and some are big enough you could cut them up for spots that need them.
