Is it possible to make a BBA?

im guessing the answer is no, but has anyone seen anything anywhere on how to mod the dreamcasts regular modem into a BBA i would totally flip out and it would be greatly appreciated

I know I've seen a project where someone built a board that had ethernet on it. I did a quick google search but couldn't find it. For the average Dreamcast user it is out of their league. The best option for getting the Dreamcast back on the internet when you only have DSL/Cable is to go with one of the many guides on bridging the Dreamcast's connection through a PC modem.

Do a search in the Dreamcast forum, I've posted links to about two sites that have instructions about how to do that.

yeah ive tried that before but its quite annoying having the wires allover the place since my comp isnt in my room whereas the router is. if anyone can find something, i dont care how difficult to make a BBA let me know

There are people that have done it but the supplies used are more expensive then buying an offical one...

If your looking to play games online then use a PC-DC connection, if your looking to make homebrew use a coders cable, if you absolutely need a bba then use ebay...

O well alright then. I guess ill see if i can find one on ebay at some point. Anyway though Is it even possible to play online with a BBA

Only if that game supports it, should say on the case of the game.

That is a device to let you plug in ISA based expansion cards, including a network card, into the Dreamcast. You can only use it under BSD and maybe Linux, but not in normal games.

Linux is kind of beta still, there is functionality, but there are parts of the hardware that are not supported, the BBA being one of them (last I heard). If you want a good OS for the Dreamcast go with NetBSD. BSD is just like linux in how it works, the big difference is just terminology. Under BSD sd isn't sd, its' ad so you'll have to call it as such. There is also a difference in directory structuring but you can learn how to navigate it after a little bit.

The BBA and most other hardware accessories are supported. Sega worked with NetBSD on hardware support and getting the system running. So I'd have to say that it's the best way to go. Don't get scared of the learning curve that the BSDs have.

You can use the normal modem as a BBA you have to hook it up through an unused dialup modem on a computer that has ethernet, then run a few regtweaks and you can share an internet connection with your DC.
