A gamecube worth saving?

A long time ago, my gamecube started having trouble reading discs. The problem got worse and only then played games on an extremely rare chance. I (think) have it in the closet collecting dust. Is there a way to fix this thing or is it gone?

crank the laser. That's all it needs.

Ok first, that was really fast. What do you mean by crank the laser (sorry I'm new here and trying to get the hang of things)?

I've never done it. I think there's a screw or something near the laser that you tighten to increase the power of the laser at the cost of its lifespan.

When you say at the cost of its life-span. Would that make it not ideal for a portable as the laser may break sooner?

something like that and you will definitely find a guide for it. I have done it to so many cubes and it has fixed the DREs in all of them

you could also try swabbing the laser with a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol

I went looking in the closet for the old gamecube only to figure out it got thrown in the trash! Now I have to buy a new one.

Don't worry man, you can buy a GC pretty cheap nowadays. I bought one without cables for $10 at a garage sale.

Also, remember, try and find a silver GC. They don't have a power daughter board(unlike the regular ones). It makes it easier to portabilize(spelling?).

Woah! Really? I've never heard that and now I need to get a silver GC! (My motherboard fried and I need a new one) EDIT: By the way does anyone have pics that confirm this? I really want to make sure before I buy one.

it depends on the revision of silver cube, some did have the power daughter board and those might be better for portables cause you can build your own powersupply and run it off as little as 5v

I think it's better to get one with a separate PSU... but, I'm building my own PSU too. Anyone whose not would probably be better off getting one with an integrated PSU if they can find one.
