Screen Ressurection! But at what cost?

I broke a PSone screen and I got it working again by taking a part off. :D

But what I'm wondering is if it is really needed. The screen and sound seems to be working fine.

You see that oval silver thing with "SB3.57954" on it? Well right above it in this picture you'll se a black square thing with
something like "DH13 ZHU" on it. That is what I took off and the screen still seems to work.

Also I chopped off the board ontop so maybe this componet just had something to di with the old light?

Does anyone have any answers?
