Suitcase PC!

Post by v3ndetta »

Well, at the moment I am working on the ECO64. I was thinking that after (or during it  ) I would start one of these babies. All it's gonna be is a expensive stainless suitcase with a whole computer inside. I can't put a monitor in it though. So i might get one of those Video Cards that can hook up to a TV and then I could use it. Or I could chuck a whole lot of hard drives in there and use it as a server PC.

What it's gonna have:

1gb Ram
Undecided Motherboard
Undecided Video Card (preferably with TV-Out)
Powerful Power Supply
BIG Fan (To stop it from overheating)

And some other stuff.

Has anyone got any ideas or comments?

Yeah, unless it's an HDTV or EDTV with a VGA connection, the resolution you're going to get is going to be very low. Also, the screen will be fairly blurry, making it difficult to read text.

TV out is pointless unless you're going for a small size. You're better off getting a LCD of some kind. You may end up struggling against yourself for TV out and for what reason?

As the other dudes said, the text and all won't look good on a tv.

Make it into a laptop (no batteries of course  ). Get a suitcase that doesn't open exactly in half (bottom half is thicker than top half), find a motherboard with a good onboard video or get a good low profile card, get a low profile heatsink for the CPU, have a PSU shoved down there too, and a few fans with vents cut in the sides of the case. Then put some sort of separator on top of that and glue a keyboard and maybe a trackball or touchpad on top of that. Then gut an LCD monitor and get it to run off 12v from the PSU for the computer, and put it in the top half of the case.

Without a monitor, you might as well just make a normal case look like a suitcase, you'd get the same results a lot easier.

Poeple at school, tell me about this new computer they are getting, top of the range and all this s***, and then i ask about the screen, and they tell me that they are going to use their monster tv.

They never listen to the fact that the tv will look blury / low res. Then come back the next day and say it sucks. Its always the same.

only way to recieve a decent picture from a monster TV is to use the DVI connection and have a TV that supports 1080p, and that will give you and acceptable Resolution, face it a Computer monitor is VERY high in resolution, and the VGA input that most have has been in the resolutions of "Hi-Def" far earlier than that of modern TV's

you could cheat ( ) and get a customized laptop, take it apart, and put it in the suitcase the way you want it...

if you aren't looking to do much on this thing like typing and such and aren't worried about the res. then go with the tv thing,, cause I get the feeling you are looking for a computer you can tote around and use at like lan parties and such, now if you are concerned about the image then get a lcd and mount it facing out of the side of the case then all you have to do is plug it in and sit it on a table and start computing
