HDD Speakers

Mkay,

Experementing with this now. God 3 identical HDDs, one open at the mo, and have been fooling aroun with them, and found the pins for the head coils, by running current though them, they shoot the head this and that way.

I got thinking and hoocked this up to my speaker amp, and have a nice little speaker coming on. Now, to run the motor at the bottom, ie the platter spinner, how do i do this? Its has 3 pins, and suggestions?

Just experiment with them. Every drive motor is different, and some combinations give better sound than others.

I did this with a dead 80 gig Seagate. It's best if you put some clear plastic over the open top (maybe stretch saran wrap really tight), because after a couple days the mirror-like platter's appearance is ruined by dust.

Pretty much any small motor can be a speaker. (I used the motor from a broken CD drive on a large plastic lid once, it made some decent bass.)

I was thinking of putting LEDs between the platters on mine. It'd require verifying the platter/spindle isolation or adding isolation, then making a spring connector to push against the platter to deliver a signal while it spins

I am not woried about making sound from the platter motor, but making it spin.

Help?
