question about the original resident evil PC game

im not going into detail but I illegally received the resident evil PC game in an image format. when I plop it in the CD drive, it brings up the message "this game can only run in windows 95".

wtf? is this some virus or something? can I get around this...

Try running it with windows 95?

Try it in 95 compatibility mode if you're using XP.
