Well, remember, once video gets shot through composite cables, the artifacts are there, and the video quality is degraded. All the VGA boxes will do is blow up these artifacts to the size of the monitor.

Also, I don't think too many laptop screens use analog VGA. (Most just use digital signals for clarity, and so the VGA hardware doesn't need to be on, which saps battery power.)

I have actually thought if that too. But it seems to me the only way to do it would be to go ahead and flash Cromwell into my Xbox (It's a Halo 1.5 with a trashed PSU) and use it's native VGA output that way, also I have seen the EarthLCD controller and it would be the most expensive (And biggest) part outside of the Xbox Mobo itself.

Besides. I have a perfectly-good Xbox 1.5 Halo-edition sitting ehre all softmodded with a fried PSU... It wants to be played.

Sorry for this very noobish question, but I'm having a hard time gathering from this thread the possibility of using a laptop for a case for ANY console. I would really like to be able to use my iBook (with a bad graphics card) for something instead of trying to sell it on ebay.

Any thoughts since last December?

Yes, there's now a seller on eBay that is selling the controller you'd need (takes composite video, VGA and a TV tuner) and the cable to hook it to an LCD for less than $70. You have to have a supported model, though. Emailing them with the part number of the LCD (not the laptop model) is about the only way to find out if it is supported.

Yeah I think I will just sell my iBook on ebay to someone who wants the parts and try turning my external hard drive into a mobile emulator station, dedicated to emulators and roms, any thoughts on how to make this independent of the original host computer (some of the emulators like project64 require you to install them, would I need to load XP onto the hard drive and boot from it individually or is there a way I could use simply as a removable hard drive yet make all the emulators run on any windows computer I plug them into?)

Nope no need for XP or any OS on the harddrive, just install the emulators onto it and just go from there.

Man I was really hoping in the last 2 or 3 years someone would have figured out a way to reuse these old iMacs. I still have mine and damn if it wouldn't be cool to just wire all the innards of an old ps2 into the body and find some creative way of converting the signal from the PS2 to the LCD of the old iMac (I had one of those with the defective GPU's so I can't even just install Emulators and a ps2 controller hookup as the screen and the gpu aren't properly connected and can't really be fixed.)
