My PSOne LCD worked using VGA cable! But need help...

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

My PSOne LCD worked using VGA cable! But need help...

Hi, it's my first post here. Thanks for sharing great info about PSOne LCD. It really inspired me to start project! :D

I was able to make LCD display using VGA cable, but still have major problem.
I used NTSC version and my graphic card is MSI 9600 Pro which support C-sync.
I soldered wires as described in the article.

1 (red)(VGA) ->11(LCD)
2 (green) (VGA)->12(LCD)
3 (blue) (VGA)->9(LCD)
6, 7, 8 (RGB Ground) (VGA)->8(LCD)
9 (DCC/optional) (VGA)->10(LCD)
13 (Hsync/Csync) -(VGA)>5(LCD)

Here is what I did to work. BTW, I only have one main monitor.
1. I plugged my main monitor to DVI plug(using DVI adaptor).
2. Boot up window.
3. Run the Powerstrip program adjust display config. to “some what close to LCD screen set upâ€

I am familiar with what you are doing because I used the same site to find my screen pinouts. I think it won't recognize it as a screen because the video card needs a 5v signal. I think that is right, its been a while since I've been to that site. I believe that monitors send out a 5v signal to make the video card output video.
Does that answer your question??

The problem with trying to use the PSOne screen as you want is you lack a key part thats for dual screen use.
There are two ways to get two or more screens working; one is to have a video card for every monitor; two there are programs that work to do that, TSS talked about one it has a free trial but after that its $30.

If you dont have either of those you get one signal, as for the PSOne not being recognized. Thats something that might be expacted. After all its resolution is limited to 640x480, and there are not drives the best windows, linux, Mac os X can do is load a genaric driver and hope the screen is compatable.

If you havent gone found all the answers to it try going throught the thread about the PSOne screen and VGA hook up the links and the thread itself, you just might have missed something.

Yes, I assume a screen send voltage to a video card to recognize it's present. I know there is +5V line(pin 10 from LCD) which is connected Pin 9 in VGA. But when I see pinout for VGA cable Pin 9 is not in used.
Could this be the problem? Should this line connect to other pin?

I searched a bit and here is pinout diagram explained better:
http://www.mycableshop.com/techarticles/VGA.htm

Most of site saids Pin 9 is not used, except ATI site saids it's used for +5V? :?

My video card support dual display and there is option I can choose to run either clone mode or multiple screen mode, so I don't think that would be the problem.

I did use information on sticky thread of PSOne LCD pinout, but it appear people who able to work used Composite lines to run a video game console.

The 12th pin on the first slot needs 5v so the screen will turn on. You'll need to solder a wire from the 12th pin to the 5v leg on the 7805 regulator.
Is this step I'm missing?

Nope, not all psone lcds need that mod, and it seems like yours doesn't

Thanks for the links. Actually those are ones I used for my project. I should mentioned where I got infos from.
Anyway, is anyone knows owner of third link? I had question for him.
http://tidder.rudyatek.com/tidder/lcd/6.htm
The blue wire will go to VGA pin 1,
Wire 1 will go to VGA Pin 2
Wire 2 Will go to VGA Pin 3
Wire 3 will go to both VGA Pin 13 and 14
Wire 4 will go to the rest of the VGA Pins as Ground

From sticky pinout, blue wire is C-sync, but it appears he wired to Red. Or if he made mistake on wiring, is he trying to say C-sync goes to H-Sync/C-Sync(Pin 13) and V-Sync(Pin 14)?
I know Wire 4 is ground and everyone said it's gound for R,G, and B. But he said rest of the VGA pins goes to the ground?
Anyone can confirm this if it's right? This is confusing....
