Ok mabye my facts are not all true, so frikkin' sue me, I know these 360 as having problems because out of the 4 people I know with one, 2 of them had to send them in for repairs (One being the 3 red lights of death)
and the other for a dieing drive (Wouldnt play any Xbox 360 games or Xbox games, only Music CDs and DVD movies)

And the heat issue, Unless there is something to do with Intercooler fans on the 360 makeing them heat up even more I would like to hear it, because WITH the Intercoller on my friend's 360 that had the Dieing disc drive, it still feels REALLY hot after a few hours of Guitar Hero 2, we know this because my friend had to pack up the 360 into his bag (He brings it pretty much everywhere he possibly and practically can)

And this crap about legalized Roms? yes it may be true, but what if you were and average consumer and wanted to buy a 360 or a Wii just for playing these old games that you can download, and some other non classic games to try out.

$250 for Wii, and no Classic games more than $10, Xbox 360 $400 or $300 if that consumer isnt going to play much plus $40 for a Memory card.
And you say these classic games are $8s on XBLA?

You also have to look at these systems through the average persons view, not the Average gamer/Hard-core gamers view.

These average people are not going to know what Roms are and know that they can get them Illegally, on the interent.

And the Original Software on XBLA, yeah Wii is possibly getting that also.
http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=16993

And yes the Wii's graphics suck, but nintendo DID do this on purpose, if they didn't have those controllers, the console would have been just as powerful as the others.

And you say why couldnt they do both? So you don't have to jack up the Price on the Console to over $300, which is where people get scared off by video games, and the controller was designed to attract them and ward them away from confusing Xbox, PS2 and Gamecube controllers.

What I mean is that when I first saw the Xbox Controller and the PS2 Controller, I thought I would never figure out how to use it.

And so what the Controller isn't 100% PERFECTLY accuret, nothing that use to point in a 3d space is going to be very accuret, unless you want to spend over $100 on a controller.

And Nintendo being ballsy by improving Graphics? No that is not ballys, that is doing the same crap they Did on every other console when they released them, (NES 8bit to SNES 16bit, to N64 64bit, to Gamecube 128bit 500mhz CPU.)

(GBO 8bit, GBC 8-bit doubled the GBOs Z80 processor speed by double and more than twice the amout of RAM, GBA 32-bit (More 16bit than 32) widescreen design, DS 2 screens, 2 32-bit Processors creating nearly n64 graphics)

See Nintendo made a small jump in Processor power with the Wii but at least it isnt a Gamecube. So what it is as powerful as an Xbox, but looks better than the Original Xbox, doesnt have that big Ass mother board like the XBO. (More or less a Stripped down Computer made to only play published games for it)

Jongamer, you know you can edit quotes so they don't eat everyone's screen space, right?

Here is my personal opinion. The most time I have played on any of these is 1 or 2 hours on a 360, so this is pretty much an outside opinion.
PS3 isn't that good, at least not until the price comes down and developers figure out how to use its power. Right now, I would only get one if I wanted a cheap (relatively speaking) Blu-ray player.
Xbox 360 is an all around good system. I love the controller. Has some cool games and Halo 3 coming this fall.
Wii is a good system for those entering gaming and those that like Nintendo games. The new controller is cool, but iffy, but I haven't tried it, so I won't say anymore.

For me, its a tie between the 360 and Wii and it just depends on what you want.

the 360 is an excellent system in my opinion, I was just saying watch out because of the failure rates. two of my friends have broken consoles. one had his problem remedied easily by MS, the other is just outside warranty with a messed up samsung disc drive.

the 360 is also looking at some promising releases I cant wait to get my hands on blue dragon :)

but it really does sound like a wii is right up your alley

What's with all the hostility towards different game consoles? This isn't a zero sum game, there's room for three consoles (beyond three the margins get horribly small for any but the top three, but that's a different story). If you have a 360, you're of the majority, you're not going to cut out of the loop with developers. If you have a Wii(hopefully), the surprising number of sales thus far will make developers take time to optimise and tweak the gameplay for the Wii. If you have a PS3, just enjoy your 1080p gameplay and be done with it.

Anyway, back the orginal question, even though the Wii doesn't have a lot of games, most of them are very good and fun. Many more will be coming, the sales have virtually assurded that. Some really interesting first party titles will be coming very soon. See if you can find a store that will let you try it out, or find a friend with one, and try it out yourself. I rather like the console and controller, my brother doesn't. It's personal opinion.

In the interest of conserving monitor space the world over I will attempt to keep this brief. :D

Coolness. I figured that's what you meant, just wanted to be sure.

Sorry for the massiveness of that post, but I felt the need to dispell some unsubstantiated accusations that were being leveled at the 360. Didn't realize I went on that long though!

Wait, horses have moths?

Though I disagree with your extreme hatred of the Wii, I must say that the Virtual Console is quite gimmicky. I mean, if you really want to play an old game, just PLAY IT. There are plenty of options out there for doing so, if you know what I mean. If the games on the Wii's Virtual Console were ones that were obscure or never released here, I may consider laying down some cash, but otherwise, it's just a waste of money. There's word of some original downloadables coming to the console soon, hopefully they can make something of it.

Yes, MS and those damn horses with moths. Who would have known they were in cahoots together?

I quite honestly do not hate the Wii. It just doesn't do much of anything for me at the moment, but I can understand why others would enjoy it. I did have a lot of fun playing Wii Bowling after all! In my opinion it has more shortcomings than the other two consoles, however.

What I can appreciate when discussing this subject with you is that you can recognize some things that Nintendo can do better. Just like I recognize that MS can do things better (noise issue, too many versions of their console, unreasonably (at times) priced downloadable content, etc.).

The fact that you just belittled the VC and in a post in another thread mentioned that the controls ( for the most part) aren't quite there yet speak volumes about you in that you can look at things objectively.

I don't say this, because I agree with those comments, but rather because it makes you out to be rational. None of the 3 companies are perfect. They all could do certain parts of their business better. We recognize that. Certain others (see below) do not.

Hope to see you at the MGC!

Sorry to hear your friends had problems with theirs. Were they early models by chance? From my experience, and that of the 20+ people I mentioned previously, it has been a very reliable system.

I have no idea about the Intercooler fans. I don't use one and know of no one who does. And nobody I know has had any problems. Maybe there's a connection to be made there, although we are working with a pretty small dataset.

I never once referred to them in my post as legalized Roms (although thank you for not denying it). In my opinion it's just ridiculous that Nintendo charges that much for a game that is roughly a decade old. To me $5 (or less) for these games seems much more reasonable since nothing has been done to "enhance" them in anyway to justify the extra money.

The XBLA game I referred to was in fact $5 with a number of enhancements. Yes, there are games on XBLA that cost $10. I believe SOTN was one of those. Some of these games I would also agree are overpriced, but some are a great value.

I think the VC could be a good thing if the prices were lower and they offered some harder to find games on it as CTFan mentioned. I would probably pay $5 for a game like Snatcher if I weren't fortunate enough to still own the Sega CD of it. Hell, maybe even $10 for that one. :D

Glad to hear it. Hopefully they will put out some good titles that are worth the money.

Considering that there are 10 million 360's in the world and 3 million PS3's at this point makes me tend to think that $300+ price tag doesn't scare people off. If the games are there, and the quality is there, people will buy it.

That's not to say that offering a console for less isn't a good idea, but it means that you have to make some sacrifices which Nintendo did in the case of the Wii. Whether or not this took "balls" is rather subjective to say the least...
Jongamer wrote:And so what the Controller isn't 100% PERFECTLY accuret, nothing that use to point in a 3d space is going to be very accuret, unless you want to spend over $100 on a controller.
I don't expect perfection, but it should be a lot better than it is if Nintendo wants me to fork out $250 for it. Plus, it can be made more accurate by hacking the sensor bar in half and then placing each half of it about a third of the way down the screen on each side. Ben and I figured this out back when we got ahold of one late last year. This greatly improved the vertical accuracy, which is where the biggest issues lie. Of course most people wouldn't be willing to go these lengths...

That probably wound up being a bloated post again. My apologies to the monitors of the world...

Man, there is a lot of hostility going on here. My wife just got me a Wii for our anniversary, of the three main consoles our right now, it's the only one I want, not because I'm some huge fan of nintendo, but simply because I'm more of a pc gamer than a console gamer and wouldn't play either the 360 or ps3 enough to make it worthwhile.

Right now, the only two games that I have for it are Wii Sports and Wii Play. Wii Sports is a lot of fun, and is a good game for me because I can pretty much just pick it up and play for any period of time. I got Wii Play because it came with another remote and was only $10 more than just getting the remote. I would suggest skipping Wii Play, the only small saving grace of the game is the air hockey game. The shooting game is awkward to play without something actually gun shaped and the pool game is just plain poorly implemented. I would suggest taking the extra $10 and investing it in a glove for the remote or out it toward getting another nunchuck.

The Wii is novel, but novelty isn't a bad thing, I think I will still enjoy playing the Wii after the novelty wears off.

Parkie, as for whether or not you should get one, if you think you would actually play it and like the games that are either already available or will be coming out in the future, and have the money to get one, buy it. Otherwise, look into either a different console, or save your money for something else.

[edit]
The only real shortcoming that I can think of for the Wii (other than a lack of games currently out, which one would hope would change in the not too distant future) is that the motion sensors in the wiimotes are not as sensitive as I would like. Having actually played golf and tennis in real life, I kind of expected to be able to do things like gently tap the ball, and unfortunately, doing so requires more violent motion than I expected, but I am getting used to it.

I was accually reading a recent article about the failure rate of 360s.

http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=17067

Quote from Maxconsole who quoted from 360gamer.

"At the time of writing, 2,315 (61 per cent) responses to the survey have complained that they’ve got through at least one console, with many having got through even more than that. Obviously we accept that our figures are probably skewed towards the negative, but such a response is still unprecedented and we’re sure that if in a years time we ran a similar survey on our sister site PS-Gamer.com we wouldn’t get anywhere near such a response. In fact, we may well do this… Anyway, it’s not just us who believes this problem is beyond that of other consoles, after getting through 3 consoles, Gamertag henk live left the message: “MS dare to say they don't have a problem (Yeah right), I have been a gamer for 25 years and I never have seen this kind of reliability with a console.â€

I'd say those results are skewed, you're a lot more likely to do a survey if you have something to complain about.

Yeah to bad Sega had crap for a marketing stratagy.

Sega was doomed from the launch of the master system.

They only made 1 remotely good system/handheld out of the 6, and that was the Genesis/Mega drive, but that was taken down by Snes, and in japan, brought down by PC engine and Super Famicom.

Dreamcast would had survived if Sega marketed it properly.

BTW I love the Dreamcast, but it died too early to say it didnt fail.
