IRC Privacy?

Post by Sir Games-A-Lot »

Hi guys, well this is a little amusing to say the least but I couldn't find an answer on google so here's the story:

I've been playing with various IRC clients for the last few days and made the classic mistake of unwittingly connecting to a rather unsavory channel whole looking for new ones to post in.

Any way, as funny as that may be (in a puerile kind of way), it got me thinking: I would never want any of the fruitcakes on some of the channels I've tried and found unpleasant to find out who I am, so am I safe as long as the info I entered into the client is fake? Exactly what info can other users get on my nickname?
