I thought the 360 had an ethernet port...

You don't need a modem if you already have a high speed internet connection. At most you need a cheap networking switch to hook up both your PC and the 360 to your cable modem. (Your modem may have several ports already... Take a look at it.)

If your cable modem already has more than one ethernet port, get a patch cable that can reach to your Xbox and try it.

Sounds like you've got bigger problems then. ;)

Seriously, you're not really connecting the 360 to the computer, you're just having them both share the same internet connection. Adding the 360 to that internet connection isn't gonna suddenly make you more susceptible to viruses. Or brainwashing.

the only way a modem would work is if the service provider gives it to you, they have to like activate it or some crap. you cant just slap any modem in and get instant internet, otherwise everyone would be getting free internet with modems they bought off ebay.

and the service provider will most likely not give you another modem, as then you would (might?) be able to get twice the bandwidth as any of your neighbors. plus it costs them money to buy more modems. they will just tell you to get a router. I think best case, they might give you another one if you agree to pay for two internet subscriptions.

anyways, its not like having two modems would provide any isolation whatsoever. they are connected to the exact same place on the other end. your dad has no idea whats going on.
