Psone screen.

Well i got my psone screen but it doesn't seem to be working. i have it connected to a set of 6 double aa's. The ps turns on but the screen doesn't show any picture. But when you turn it on the screen changes but is still blank. like you can see 2 sides ( one black like its not turned on and one like its turned on but its displaying black) when you reset it it does a differnt pattern but still same problem. Anyone know whats going on?

Sounds like a power supply problem. 9V may be pushing it a bit, as the PSOne and its screen run off a native 7.2 volts. Not to mention the fact that 6AA's may not have enough juice to power the setup's current draw. If that's not the problem, try cleaning off the A/V jacks and make sure you have a solid connection, but I'd say the power is the problem. Use the original PSU, it should give you the best results.

Yeah, that all ran through my head aswell, But yeah i don't have the power pack that come with it

but i am buying the battery i will use in my portable soon. But would you say that its just needs loits of juice and i don't have enough current? Because in that case i will just do the LED mod and then see if it works . i was just really worried that it was broken. ( i got it brand new but the power pack is a uk one so doesn't fit )

If it just turns black but you can tell the back light is on, it's not getting a signal from your video source.

hmm it seems like a real weird black though, i would say the back light isn't on cause i only noticed it after a little while( thats how dark and similar to the normal screen but i try get a 7.5 ps power pack off a friend to see how that goes.

EDIT: and you know how the psone screen has it av out aswell i used that and it gave me a clear picture on the tv so the thats working.

Well, the fact that he's getting some level of visual distortion when he resets the unit hopefully means that it's getting some signal. Because if you're right, Kurt, then his problem will probably be a bit tougher to fix!

It may be a ribbon cable in need of wiggling in.

The AAs couldn't be helping though. Are you feeding it video yet?

argh i took pictures and i could see the line on the camera screen but i can't now its on the computer i will just draw whats going on though

yeah its hooked up to the ps via that huge muti av out on the ps and then i only have power and that going in but yeah ....

the grey stuff is what is different and you reset it and it moves and goes in like lines down the screen and stuff its like slighty a grey black colour

if you are turning it on where it is in the pic, try laying it back in its original plastic shell instead.

try putting a little pressure down on the clamp that secures the ribbon cable using your finger

Assuming you have connected the wire to the 12th pin (5v) to give "always on mode" to the screen, the issue with the PSone screen going black or having wavy lines is likely to be the draw from the batteries. You need to use 6 rechargable batteries with a minimum of 2500NiMH AA, and they need to be "digital" or "photo". These are highly powered batteries capable of working with high drain appliances. 6 of these batteries, fully charged, are about 8.44v; will last about 1.75 hours playtime. Once power gets under 7.5v the screen tends to either black; or go whiter and whiter, then off.

You can, as others recommend, use Li-ion batteries, they can be 7.4v and up to about 18000NiMH; but there are issues with them, including risks with recharging them, depreciation of life every time they are recharged, larger in size; and the screen really needs 7.5v (under that the screen blanks) so not sure if 7.4 volt is ok - others I found are over 9v, which would blow the PSone screen.

I have ordered a stack of Duracell 2650NiMH AA digital batteries, cheapest source was e-bay at Â£23 delivered for 12 batteries (3 packs of 4). hopefully they will give longer than 1.75hours between charges! Existing ones I used were Ansmann and Sony; not sure, but think the Sony ones hold the charge better.

how do you know if you have blown the screen?
and also i tried pressing down on the ribbon and nothing happened.

also on the plastic.

Well i was superworried that i had blown it, becuase when i first got it i tried using it with a 10v power pack ( i didn't use this one on purpose, i just thought it was the 7.5 one that i have which fits the ps but has a different current output) after reading http://benheck.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=14407
i thought hmm well i didn't get ANY picture to start with. So i am starting to think that it might be cause i am not having enough current. I came to this when i was reading the specs of the psone lcd power pack on the net. Its output is 7.5 3a and the power pack i was using only is 7.5 volt and 1a current
Could this be the problem ?
i also checked the ps1 fuse and its still working. is there any other fuses?

I will sure try that but i don't think its blown. Cause if it was i would be getting no power, no power means no Picture or anything. The fact is i am not getting anything really but i am getting some picture like i said before, Its not really picture its more like a shade of black. But i should be getting a battery today ( the one i am using in my psp) so i will be able to test it
