Kill two laden african swallows with one pebble...
This is a two subject post! Those with feeble, mono-tasking minds are advised to avert eye contact!
That was fun...
Seriously though, I have something that I should relate to you all...
1)
As members of a community, of which I am a part, you have a right to know something about me that could make things a little unpleasant. I am autistic. This wouldn't be a problem except for the fact that my "version" has an extreme impact on my social behavior. In other words, I can be an ass and not know it untill someone responds.
I'm telling you this because I don't want trouble. I want to be a productive member of this community. But more than anything, I just want to belong. It's hard for me to do that. Belong. Most people don't understand that I have a problem, or they do understand, but don't care. I just want someplace where I can be me, and feel free to do so without prejudice. I don't know If that's here, but I want you to know my intentions. If things go wrong, really wrong, I'll know to remove myself. Lord knows I've had to in the past.
Something I've noticed about online forums is that the removal of face to face discusion makes things harder to work out. You see, when you talk to someone, you do more than listen to their words, you read their face. This makes it easier to tell if they're making a joke, offering help, or trying to be an ass. When you just get their words, the intimacey of the disscussion is gone, and all that is left is the raw data. Humans are very emotional, and respond emotionally to even raw data.
I normally say this right away when I enter a forum. But this time, I wanted to try to see if I could ignore it. I don't think I'll be able to, unfortunately. It's still a huge part of my life.
(Underscore:Just let me know if I'm annoying)
2)
This is much less serious...
I'm sure you've all scribbled down thoughts and ideas with good ole paper and pencil. So here's your time to shine. Show us!
Even if it's old, even if we've seen it before (or at least it's result), show it again, together, as a community. If you don't know what I mean by "show us"...I mean scan the doodle and post it! Anything you've got. Case build ideas. Circuitry ideas. Whatever. Less see yer stuff!
Good night, and good life!

Well, I suppose that pretty much nobody here knows that I am a little autistic myself (Asperger's syndrome) For me, however, it's the opposite of what you are experienceing: I find that people are less judgemental than they are in real life, so I feel more comfortable on the boards then with face-to-face conversations. Don't worry, you're cool so far, and it'll be pretty hard to get banned with a start like what you have. You should fit right in. If you have questions about my case or want to talk to me via AIM (spongebue) you are more than welcome to. Edit: I should mention that my case is relatively mild, just enough that I'm in special ed (though I'm not in separate classes, nor do I have a short bus) and may get out in the next few days, kinda coincidental.

But uh yeah.
Also if you tell me to look away

Yeah my family has a couple people who are autistic, cousins ect. and i did get a lil angry at you in my "psp, ect" threads when you just butted in, but know that i know why you did, i dont really care. i would have said the same things. My friends mom also teaches only to autistic children. So uh yeah I dont like telephone conversations, is there some sort of phobia like this. This is a two subject post! I have a lot of friends who are autistic. They are friends because no one else considered "normal" will do anything with them. So I just help them out if something is up, be as good a friend as I can. Many people blow autism way out of proportion. Normally in cases of autism, they person makes up for it by being extremly talented in some other field. For example, someone with a sever case of autism may not seem very intelligent, but they can think on a certain aspect so well that it is hard for a computer to do the same as fast. I think autism as a double gift, it teaches people good virtues and such (patience and understanding) while having whatever the autistic person excels at. Just my two cents. If I dont make sense, sorry, I am tired...
When in Japan with access to just about every system ever made and those that have yet to see international soil, gather your forces, and make the cool ones your own.
Yeah, the scientific term is 'savant'. I have seen people who, given a date like 50 years ago, can figure out the exact day of the week in their head almost instantaneously, while a mathematician takes minutes to perform the same calculation, and must use a pen and paper.makuraken wrote:For example, someone with a sever case of autism may not seem very intelligent, but they can think on a certain aspect so well that it is hard for a computer to do the same as fast.
Heres an article I found cool about this subject:

But yeah, Its crazy what some sutistic people can do. Like you said, they may be chalenged in one area, but just briliant in another.

Trust me dude, you will fit in fine here:D You seem like a pretty cool guy, and I hope you can stay here. You really don't have to worry about being banned as long as you follow the standard rules. Heck, even if you break them the worst you get is a slap on the wrist (or your avatar taken away
)
Everybody here is, in at least some way, different. Thats why I love coming here, you dont have to worry about impressing anyone, or saying something stupid and be ridiculed about it for 6 months. You can just kinda hang out and talk with other geeks.

Hey man, welcome to the fray. Honestly I probably wouldnt have noticed if you had lapsed and acted unsavory towards some because I myself suffer from a severe case of poop egress. Because I am bi-polar. I know the jerk side doesnt show itself here very often but if you want to see it search for posts made by MarioNES on Emuxhaven.net forums. I'm not a jerk there anymore either but I was.
Funny thing. I have been making doodles about portables since 2002, but I cant find any of them now.
