Are RAM prices gonna go up?

They rescently dropped a lot and I am worried/herd they are going to go up again. Should I go ahead and buy this now just incise?

Depends on what you have now, it might be good enough to hold you until prices go down (assuming they do go up). You might be confused by DDR3 memory coming out, which will likely cost more for the first while.

what i hate is that newer ram is cheaper than older ram!
i bought 2gb pc4200 ram for like 186$ not too long ago and i checked on pc6400 ram for a friend and it was like 90$ for 2gb after shipping! same brand

I have the same problem. You'd think that I could replace my 2 256MB DDR-266 sticks with a couple 512 sticks for pretty cheap, but for the same price I could get much newer ram, so I might as well just save the money to get a new computer.

Guys so long as you don't have to worry about buying RDRAM,[RAMBUS] I wouldn't worry about it. Hell I bought a 1GB stick of notebook PC2700 DDR SDRAM for about $100 [NEW] off Ebay, for a computer that is only 2 years old, not bad.

The ram I have now well... It works? It could be LOADS better...

It is 1GB PC5300 5-5-5-15 for $120 new...

Now I can get better ram for not even that same price or get 2 more sticks of that same thing for $65!?

What really sucks is the price of PC100 RAM... I don't think it's ever gonna go down.

It costs around $70 for 512MB, that's friggin ridiculous.

It'll go down, maybe in another 5 years or so. - once it becomes so obsolete they don't sell it anymore. Just look at old SIMMs and DIMMs, you can get them for dirt because they're from 12-20 year old comps.

i heard that ram prices are plummeting and that they will likely stay there. (conversely, flash is apparently going up, so grab those sd cards now)

i also heard that ddr3 was so expensive than you could buy a whole ddr2 computer instead, and ddr3 isnt even faster than ddr2 right now. dont be fooled by the higher number, the timings are loose as your mother.

It sounds to me like people are comparing electronics to gasoline.

Rarely over past years have I seen a current electronic component trend upwards in price. I have only seen lasting upward trends in technology which has recently been replaced, like DDR memory. It makes sense. If less DDR memory is made as fabs switch to DDR2 production, but demand remains the same, the price will increase.

No, prices for current tech will either trend down or level off- perhaps jogging around a little.

I really don't believe that about flash ram. When I can buy a 2GB USB drive for $16, I really can't believe that. Flash ram is likely going to continue to drop in price because industry and consumers alike are always wanting bigger capacity. The technology going into making them is also catching up with that of processor construction.

If anything the prices of flash ram are dropping like rocks and likely making way for the next step is size. For example 512MB is the standard size for a flash drive, likely in a year it will be 2GB or 4GB. They're likely looking to phase any sub-1GB drive off the market and start pushing bigger sizes.

A slightly off topic question, what motherboards would be compatible with a Gateway 700s tower then. If buying a new motherboard is cheaper then buying 512MB ram (and it sure looks like it) what would be compatible. Just PM the answer to me, don't use the thread.
