'Gamecube was probably one of the best controllers I've ever used. I like the 360 controller too, nice and solid. More of a PC fan, gotta stick to the mouse and keyboard, especially for shooters.

Well, I guess the only controllers I really don't like are the NES advantges. I mean every time I find a good used one either the joystick ball is missing and/or the buttons stick. And I'd still rather play super mario bros with the regular controller anyway.

Keyboard? Too many keys, and only a few have functions. Too hard to remember, and not efficient enough.

What the hell is that crap?! The PS2 controller, the 360 controller and the 2600 stick? Ha!

Should be:

5) Xbox S Controller - Very comfy, supplied variable shoulder buttons
4) SNES - Introduced shoulder buttons and a comfy button scheme
3) PlayStation DualShock - Had a nice, even rumble and revolutionized the 2 thumbsticks
2) Gamecube Controller - Emphasized the A button to make gaming easier for newbs, left the PS2 controller in the dust with a new design
1) Wii Controller - You guys know why

Could someone please explain to me the draw of the Gamecube controller? I was never an owner of the 'Cube, but now that I have a Wii, I play Gamecube games every now and then, and honestly, I find it a bit akward. It feels nice, but the button layout is very unergonomic. Is it just one of those things you have to get used to? I honestly don't think I've played it enough to give a solid opinion, but of my limited use with it, that's the only conclusion I've come to make.

Well, I would say, Compare Shoulder buttons, and compare joystick sensitivity. And, the a and b buttons.

Its almost as comfy as the 360 controller. The only problems I have with it are the angles around the analogs and I get confused with the A, B, X and Y, though I'm sure that would change if I played one a lot.
At least it has true triggers, unlike the Dualshock. They still make you push X to accelerate, what kind of 1990's crap is that? :P

my favorite ever has to be the Sega Saturn 'batwing' style.
it just felt so right.

That controller is definitively on my list, if not it's older brother the 6-button Genesis.

Xbox360, it's so damn comfortable!

WASD, this is about the best way to place any FPS or real-time strategy.

SNES, the best controller of it's day, something I really do love the feel of when I pick it up.

Last on my list is the Xbox S controller not much different from the 360's but it's a controller that made console FPS possible. Halo would not be possible with something like the Dual Shock controller, no way in hell, way too cumbersome.

My top 5

1. NES controller hands down

I love the rectangle shape in my hands. Sure it isn't the most comfortable but it has that "good" feeling to it when i place my hands around it.

2. Gamecube

The only controller that I found to mold to my hands. Button placement was great and the analog sticks where in the sweet spot for my thumbs. The only problem I have with it is that the "Z" button is in a weird location.

3. WASD/Mouse

Only way I can play FPS tho Red Steal showed how the Wiimote can change this. Grew up playing with my keyboard and I will never switch. I did try one of those Z-Boards but I quickly returned it. Nothing Beats a good mouse/keyboard for FPS.

4. Vectrex Controller

Few may know about this controller but when I got my hands on one I was amazed. Was one of the first controllers to have a real analog stick which was a big deal and was really the only controller that acted like a miniature arcade machine. The NES Advantage doesn't even come close to it.

5. Atari 2600

Why you say? Isn't it uncomfortable, and hard to wield? Well this kinda has the same qualities as the NES controller to me. I have used it for so long that it feels natural to hold that controller. When I use other controllers (lets say the ps2) they just feel awkward and I "stumble" across the buttons.

Honorable Mention

Wiimote

Well the Wiimote didn't fit in my top 5 for good reasons. I have yet to play a game that captured the complete use of the controller. Mario Party 8 tho looks like it could bump this controller into my top 5 tho. It has to prove itself worthy first

Terrible Controllers

PS2/PS3

Oh gawd, this is the reason I didn't own a PS2 for so long. I only bought it to play guitar hero as well so I could avoid this god forsaken controller. It is dam to small. My hands feel squished together as I try to reach the left thumb stick or as I try to punch in some buttons on the right. And who's idea was to stick 2 shoulder buttons on each side? 1 trigger and 1 button is fine like the Xbox 360 but 2 buttons? I died countless times over at my friends house because of this fact. Gah enough. Begone Sony!

Sega Genesis

Sure the console was great but the default controllers where aw full. Like how am I supposed to hold this dam thing? Plus the cables are way to short.

Super Scope 6

Great concept, horrible outcome. Ate batteries quickly and had a nasty tendency to lose its calibration causing you to have to stop the game and recalibrate it. Also it caused neck strain as you had to keep your shoulder and neck still while using or you would lose the calibration.

I think thats enough ranting.

I don't know if i have a top five but i have a top two! :D The Gamecube and N64 controllers so far fit the best in my opinion. Right now between all the current gen systems i think the Wiimote is the best. Really never like the 360 controller and the PS3 controller is essentially the same as the PSone and PStwo controllers.

before I say this, I shalt say I never have problem with button or analog or d pad placement, because I can adapt well. so this is on my comfy-ness meter.

my 1st spot guys, is seemingly unpopularly the Gamecube controller. when I first held it, it felt like they took a mold of my hand prior, it was perfect.

Second, I would have to say goes to wiimote. it is nice and round, and the nunchuck is pretty comfy.

third... possibly the GBA, the nonlit one. I think it was a nice thing to hold.

Four.... the DS (never held a lite, I know, blasphemy), it is a bit heavier, thus not as comfy.

Five... we have for you the SNES controller. it was comfy.

Hey, you cheater, thats a handheld, not a controller. :P Though you are right, GBA is a superior handheld as far as comfort goes, the SP is easier to see, but smashes your hands together. I like the little shoulder handles, they're nice to hold on to it but not risk hitting R or L, which are my favorite non-trigger shoulder buttons. I like the small, raised d-pad, its almost like its a joystick.
