novelty isn't quality but nintendo products sure as hell are

remember if you get a 360 you may go through 2 or 3
fortunately the red lights didn't happen to me,but mine did freeze after one or 2 hours of play until I replaced the thermal compound

Yeah, my friend's on his third 360. His first one died when he put his Gamecube next to it. His second one died when his parents messed with it. Apparently though, it's mainly the first-gen units you have to worry about. One you buy new now should be fine.

more like, do you want either a system for Unique gameplay and parties, or a system that has awsome graphics but you never really notice them on anything lower than a 480p tv.

Or this comparison, you can get up off your ass and play some Wario ware or Rayman raving rabids, or Wii sports.

Or sit on your ass and play that same FPS all day long onine.

Metal Slug Anthology is great fun, but you could complete it in 2 days
Kororinpa is suprisingly difficult for its appearance, you can easily complete it in around 2 weeks though.
Warioware is OK, takes only 5 hours of constant play to unlock Pyoro S though.

The only things which make the Wii worthwile just now are VC games - They're the lifeblood of the wii inbetween the scarce good releases.

If you're gonna get a wii, I'd recommend you leave it for a bit
I gotta say; Super Paper Mario has made the Wii for Mii right now. Has to be the best game I've played in years. Super Smash Bros. Brawl is coming out this year (http://smashbros.com) and so is Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3. Those are going to complete my Wii library for quite a while. Oh - and maybe Mario Strikers Charged. :)

Current Game Recommendations:
  • -Wii Sports (uh duh)
    -Sonic and the Secret Rings
    -Super Paper Mario
    -Trauma Center: Second Opinion
    -Zelda
Future Game Recommendations:
  • -Super Smash Bros. Brawl
    -Super Mario Galaxy
    -Metroid Prime 3

There are some other games that are cool (Metal Slug, WarioWare) but they're nothing you can't just play at a friends house, you won't be missing much.

Have you ever played a 360 in both SD and HD?

I played one in SD for damn near a year and while it didn't look as glorious as it has on my HD set the last few months it was still a significant leap in graphics, sound, and gameplay over the previous generation.

Hell even original Xbox games looked noticeably better played in SD on a 360.

To say a person can't even notice what the 360 brings to the table when playing on an SD set is ignorant to say the least. Or the person in question is in need of a trip to an optometrist in the very near future.

Not trying to be inflammatory or anything, but how exactly can you recommend games that aren't even out yet?

Ok I may have been Ignorent with the graphics, but yeah.

Is it worth having a system plagued by System and Game updateds that F* up your 360 and you have to wait about a month for your 360 to get repaired?

And the Noise that the 360 makes, geez and people call the Dreamcast noisy? 360 IMO is about as loud as a Dreamcast if not louder.

HEAT, this thing puts out so much heat, don't play it in an enclosed room, you will roast yourself, and if you play CPU/GPU stressing games for long periods of time, you could get them so hot that the Tin solder holding vital components on the board melt and the parts can come loose give your 360 the 3 red lights of death.

That yet again making you send it back to Microsoft to get repaired (If you can STAND their Customer service, my friend had to hang up on one guy because the guy was'nt streight forward with anything, so he called until he got a lady that accually was easy to talk to.

Or if you get a Wii, you don't have to worry about updates that kill your system or Ban your system from online services and not your Gamertag, and if your Wii is dead, go Online to their website or call Nintendo and they will send you a label to stick on any shipping box of your choice, then mail it to Nintendo for no charge. (Microsoft does the Above but they send you the box and Styrofoam inserts)

And you will usually get your fixed Wii or new Wii back in about half a month repaired free of charge. (Same for Microsoft)

Or look at it this way.

Xbox 360, do you want the same old crap but with better graphics and HD support, and some tampered with old favorite Xbox live arcade games of past games from your childhood but they just don't fell the same?

Wii, do you want the same crap but with Unique controlls that no one else had the balls to do, and your old favorite Classic games from your childhood, not tampered with to make the graphics better or to add online play?

Just think about all this, which would be more convinient for YOUR needs?

Where do you come up with this stuff?

I have had my 360 for a year and NEVER had any problems with it. I have never had to have it replaced or repaired and I use it heavily. I'm almost on it every day as I have no life.

Also, out of the 20+ people I know with 360's not a single one of them has had to have any sort of repair work done to it.

I think what happened was MS cranked a ton of 360's out at launch and in the months immediately following said launch under less than desirable production circumstances. This resulted in a high failure rate in the early models, but this is a problem that rarely if ever exists in systems manufactured past the first 6 months of the consoles launch.

Did MS bring this on themselves? Yes. They have corrected the problem now. Should they continue to take heat for it? No. This is an old argument that doesn't hold it's water anymore. A year ago? Yes. Today? No. Come up with a new complaint about a system you obviously have little experience with, please.

The only thing I'll give you is that it is noisy. That's because they put a "cheap" DVD drive in it, or so I've heard. I manage to tune out the noise now as I have become accustomed to it over time. That said, the noise factor is definitely one of it's very few shortcomings.

I also don't understand this heat complaint. I have done some pretty heavy duty gaming on this system and have never had any trouble with it. I'm talking 8 to 10 hours of dedicated gaming time (remember, I did say I have no life) and nary an issue. If I put my hand on the 360 after all that gaming it is not cool, but it is not hot either. It's really no warmer than the case for most electronic equipment that I've ever come across.

If you put your 360 in an enclosed space (like a small video cabinet) will it overheat? Possibly. Again this could be said for most electronic components. My parents have a DVR from Charter for their cable and Charter actually made them locate it outside of the cabinet for that very reason. Something tells me your Wii isn't chained up in a wooden cabinet, so why should the 360, or PS3 for that matter, be held to such a standard?

Another outdated complaint that doesn't really hold water, or matter, in my opinion.

I can't speak to the MS customer service experience as I have never had to call them (thank goodness!). My guess is that it would be similar to the experience of calling say Dell, or any other technology company's outsourced tech support... BAD!!!

Please get your facts straight before commenting.

I've never had an update "kill" my system. Has it happened to some people out there? Yes. When you're pushing out an update to millions of devices will it fail in some cases? I would imagine so. This is why the almighty and infallible Nintendo has had similar issues with the Wii.

Source This report demonstrates that both systems have had similar complaints

As far as being banned from online services on the 360? This is being done intentionally to 360's that have had their firmware modified in order to play "burned" copies of games. This is not an accident.

I like how you try to discredit Xbox Live Arcade by saying the games are "tampered" with. So they have taken an arcade game that could be played with others in the "real" arcade such as TMNT and made it so that I can play the game in my living room with 3 friends, OR play with 3 friends on Xbox live. Oh, and they added leaderboards to it. They didn't mess with the integrity of the original game in any way. Hell, it even retains the glitches or *shudder* exploits that existed in the original arcade game. All for the price of $5. For me I would rather drop $5 on a game that has been "enhanced" to allow a greater chance of enjoying the game with my friends than an emulated version of Super Mario 64 that offers absolutely NOTHING new for $10. Oh, and every Xbox Live Arcade game I've played that has "enhanced" graphics also offers the option to play with the original graphics if you so desire. I won't even get into the fact that Xbox Live Arcade has numerous ORIGINAL titles available for it unlike the Virtual Console which only offers up games that many Nintendo fans have already bought at LEAST once in their lives.

And as far as the Wii's unique controls go? They are far from ballsy. They're all fine and dandy for those who like that sort of thing, but in my experience they aren't nearly accurate enough to be worth a damn. This was about all Nintendo could come up with to keep a niche carved out for themselves in the gaming market while being able to pocket a profit on their mostly dated hardware from day one.

Now, what would have been really ballsy on Nintendo's part you ask?

If they would have made a system that was at least technologically competitive with the 360 and PS3 while also incorporating effective, accurate motion control.

The premise of the Wii is not a bad one, but in my opinion Nintendo just didn't go far enough with it.

Their machine is too crippled for most third party developers to make ports of games that are popular for the 360 and PS3 for it.

For instance you will never see a game as gorgeous, or as deep as Oblivion on the Wii. If Ubisoft ever gets around to putting GRAW or R6V on it they will look every bit as bad as CoD3 did on the Wii with in all likelihood just as horrible controls.

I like these games. Sue me! Nintendo doesn't have a system that can handle them so they don't get my money. If I ever want to play A Link to the Past again I will pull out my SNES and play it. I don't need to toss Nintendo $8 (or whatever it is) for the "privilege" of playing it again.

So I guess you could say that the Xbox 360 is the most convenient for me and suits my needs just fine!

Wait, horses have moths?

Though I disagree with your extreme hatred of the Wii, I must say that the Virtual Console is quite gimmicky. I mean, if you really want to play an old game, just PLAY IT. There are plenty of options out there for doing so, if you know what I mean. If the games on the Wii's Virtual Console were ones that were obscure or never released here, I may consider laying down some cash, but otherwise, it's just a waste of money. There's word of some original downloadables coming to the console soon, hopefully they can make something of it.
