I have an idea; why don't you add some color to these forums?

For example, you can start a contest for 'the best portable of the year'. Each candidate may pay the jury which consist of the moderators, say, 5 USD via PayPal and those 5 USDs later would buy a, say, Sony PSOne Screen as a prize to the winner. You can, of course, think on the details before the contest starts and announce them.

I would like to know if anyone agrees with me or not.

It seems that participation in such contests here isn't enough to afford the prize :P

Hmm. Maybe you're right. The jury can decide on the details like pricing, time, or so. I just want to share an opinion.

Maybe a more fitting prize would be custom title like "award-winning portablizer" or something. I'd imagine prizes that cost money are a bit unlikely to happen.

Cool idea though.

That may be possible. A contest name which is agreed on by a large group of members would be better. I think something like this could become exciting when started. Got any ideas? Please send yours here..

It would be a good idea to annually crown one portablizer on the forums as making the best portables of that year (not counting Ben himself of course). Winners could have special titles (Best Portablizer - 2007 or something). Plus, it would be a good way to see where our next moderators should come from (Who has a lot of awards and is generally respected). Of course, the voting would be all by registered forum members with a certain amount of posts logged (To stop cheating) and Ben's vote would be like %40 of the total or something.

Whew. That was long-winded. Anyways, if you like the idea, just...

In what areas should the portables be evaluated? One area, in my opinion, can be 'weight'... What else?

Ben shouldn't be a candidate. We all know he's our 'Sensei'. He should be in the jury, perhaps.

I wonder what makes it this difficult to start. It shouldn't be such a difficult issue. It consists of just establishing a few common rules and open it to votes for the forum members. Then it can be redone each year from now on.

Best way to do it in my opinion is like so:

1. Purchase a bunch of items (NOAC/GOAC,SNES...etc) as well as wires, and plugs, etc.

2. Assemble a kit with all the above purchased items.

3. Sell the kit at about $5 more than what you paid for everything.

4. Set up a timeline and in the end, the winner gets the money.

That's how I feel the contest should run. Everyone can use there own tools and whatever else they have lying around to make there project run and must provide a video and/or pictures showing there system works.

A good idea; your contest thought reguires starting from the beginning of the systems. But what if every candidate shows detailed photos or videos of his already-built portable? Isn't it less time consuming(for this year at least)?
