mGENp...take two!

Post by Ness »

Has anyone been able to rig up a radica rom so that if I flip a switch one way, I can play the original rom, and if i flip it the other way, I can play a sega genesis cart game?

Hope I didn't confuse anyone with this question...

EDIT:::
This is officially my WIP thread! About 2 years ago, I started working on this but wasn't successful because the SF2 radica has completely different pinouts and that cart was not working. Now, I am using a sonic 1 radica and working on this project again.

Hook both of the carts (Radica ROM and Genesis Slot) directly to the board as you would (Genesis Slot in parallel) and install a switch that controls the voltage between them. One position, the switch delivers voltage to the ROM, the other position, it delivers to the cart slot. Or you could use the switch to control other vital lines such as ground or CE.

Thanks! It is possible which is great to know. Gotta throw the grounds onto a switch basically. However, another member was claiming that the cart cancels out the rom so I'll try that out first. If not, no big deal.

Thanks Skyone!

Well if you do have a Genesis cart slot hooked up, it will boot directly to the Genesis game if there is one plugged in, but if there's no game inserted, then it'll automatically boot the built-in games. So why do you need a switch? :?

That's what I wasn't sure about in the beginning. It's all good now, I'll be able to go from here now with the wiring process.

Yeah, I'm definitely not cutting that off. Just gonna add the cart on top of it. Currently, I have the screen and the radica running off of 4AA's perfectly. I tested out the rom and it works. Now, I need to get the cart slot going next. Once complete, if all goes well, I can connect the controller and finish up the casing! =)

This was an issue I had before...

The four three circled spots.

A21 and A22....where do they connect to???????????

!OE and !CE_L - Just connect them to OE and CE? or is something else supposed to be done there?

I couldn't wait anymore so I said screw it and tried it out anyways. As far as I am aware of, it works. When the game is in, it goes to the game and when the game is out, it loads up the radica.

I need to get another sega cart and test out another game because the one i have been using, i am not sure if that game is broken or not. I'll get another one tonight from home and try it out in the morning.

Everything is running off of batteries only so I am happy about that. Time to work on the controller tomorrow...this will be fun, especiall trying to get all this crammed into the GameGear case.
