So I had to see 28 Weeks Later on opening night. I mean, it's a zombie movie. I LOOOVE zombies!
The first movie, 28 Days Later, added a nice twist to the Zombie Genre. Sure, it had the classic "Wake up in a Hospital and everybody's missing" starting, and your zombie fight for survival. But it is set in Britain. An ISLAND. In the end, as the plane flies overhead, you realize that the zombie invasion is only in Britain, and the rest of the world is safe. What a twist.
This stopping point left a very open ended, wonderful starting point for the sequel, 28 Weeks Later. I'm sure that the makers will release alternate endings and entirely different plots that will change what happens in half the movie, as they did with 28 Days later.
28 Weeks Later starts off 28 Weeks later after the initial release of the Rage virus into Britain by Animal Activists. Between 28 Days and 28 Weeks later, the infected die of starvation, American Nato forces move in, and a small area in England has been cleared the dead and has been reconstructed into a habitable zone, the beginnings of repopulating Great Britain.
But there was a survivor of the infection left over. She was infected, but had a natural immunity to the virus, and did not turn into a zombie herself. Her children, among the first to come back to Britain, go back to their house to find a picture of their mom, because the young boy, 12, is afraid he will forget what she looks like. Nato sees them leave and catches up to them, where they find the mom as well, and bring her in for sanitation.
The Family (Dad, kids) thought she had died. The Dad, who is a key player in the re population, and has access to all buildings, runs to his wife as soon as he hears shes alive. He kisses her, but because she is infected, he becomes a zombie, infecting the entire Britain again.
Zombie Action ensues. (Nato vs. Zombies, then Nato vs. ALL)
A handful of survivors are now running from zombies and Nato forces.
More Zombie action
In the end of the movie, there are 3 survivors. A helicopter pilot, and the two children. One of which, due to a genetic abnormality, has been infected but shows no symptoms.
They fly to france.
France gets infected.
The heroes, saving the boy, who holds the key to an antidote, become the bearers of the infection to all of Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Damn that sucks.
Awesome movie.
Here's what I predict:
28 Months Later: All of Mainland Asia, Africa, and Europe is infected. Zombie action ensues. Bad sequel.
28 Weeks Later. Awesome Movie. SPOILER WARNING!!!
