What happened??? Paint Question.

Long story short, I painted and sanded the back of my portable perfectly. I laid it (with all the parts inside) paint down on to a nice soft cotton towel.

I pick it up today and to my surprise it's got towel marks on it. The paint MOVED and caused an icky pattern on the part that sticks out the most.

Possible solutions to this problem? Anyone experienced this?

Place in on a flat surface, perhaps?

let the paint dry more? :p

this is similar to what happened when i got a fingerprint in your paint. it looked dry but it was still smooshy.

paint typically takes 24 hours to dry fully or even more time depending on the paint if you lay it paint down on something it will take up the pattern

You need to let it sit for at least a day to fully cure, or up to 36 to 48 hours depending on how thick you painted it and the humidity. ("dry to the touch" isn't really "dry".)

Bic speaks the truth. I know it's tempting to pick it up and take a look, but you really do have to let it set for the full 24 hours. I let my paint jobs sit for about 2 days before picking them up, just to make sure.

Also, you may want to remove this screw-up layer before putting any more paint on. I find the best way to do this without damaging the case at all is to run the case under hot water and take some steel wool to it. When I screwed up on one of my paint jobs, that method had everything fixed up in no time. Good luck, man!

This paint was sitting for at least 3 days before I did anything with it. and even more before it was on the towel.

It was fully fried, fully cured paint.

It's Rustoleum Paint for Plastics. *NO PRIMER REQUIRED!*.

So no, I did not.

I think it's just a soft paint. I put many layers on. I left it on foam overnight and it seems to have helped. I'll touch it up before I post the completed project, of course.
