i just bought a gameshark for my n64(which i love dearly, i had to buy another one to take apart and fry) but the gameshark, when i turn it on the led display just stays on 8. any tips are helpful

Yes, keep blowing on the contacts and rub some rubbing alcohol on it.

I am trying to use super mario 64 so i don't think it needs a keycode and i don't have another gameshark. Also, i really don't know where this should be because the n64 section is supposed to be just portabalizing isn't it.

EDIT: how do you get the rubbing alchohol on the top slot of the gameshark; Q-tips just get ripped apart? on another note i just figured out how to edit posts.I'm very proud of myself.

Version 2.2 gamesharks are notorious for not functioning correctly. Try...
Holding the cart on top down while you turn the N64 on.
Taping the cart down onto the GS (Yes, I've had to do this.)
Thoroughly clean the contacts on the GS.
They break pretty easily though, so...ya know. Anyways, any other questions, just...
