Gameboy XP PC

Ok sorry if this is not the place to put this, but..... Well for one why I put it here is because WE HAVE NO PORTABLE FORUMS!

And people would wonder why the Hell I would put this in the NES forums.

So here you go.

Somone was able to fit a PC that can run Windows XP into a Gameboy, the PC has VGA port to hook up to monitors, Ethernet ports, 2 USB ports, and the HDD is a Compact flash card which has Windows xp installed on it.

Hmm, I'm not really impressed, I've seen far more impressive computers built using pico itx mobos. Whoever made this appears to have just removed the guts of the gameboy and shoved the mobo inside. If he had cleaned up the case a bit, maybe made it appear that the CF card were fitting nicely into the cartridge slot, etc. then maybe...

Yeah, with a PicoITX,a PicoPSU, and a CF --> IDE Adaptor you could have a really nice PC in a Gameboy Casing

Seems like a waste to me, you could have put it into sleeker cases than that, instead of a crappy job of putting it in a GBO case. $500 for a small computer, only to have a crappy case. If it was a good job of putting it in the case, that would have been ok.

Meh... If it had a 2.6" screen, a battery, and the buttons were keyboard input (you see where I'm going with this?

). The case could also use some improvements. Cleaner cuts and less hot glue.

Making the A and B buttons the power and HD activity lights was pretty dumb too. Wouldn't you want to try squeezing a USB encoder in there so you can use it for games? They could have also removed the VGA and Ethernet connectors. The network connector could be made into a dongle, and the VGA connector could join the other headers to a port for a breakout box. (It could be done with IDE or floppy connectors...) They could have disguised the CF card better, or even hidden it in a GB cartridge case.

It's too bad; this has potential. This is another case of a good plan ruined by poor execution.

I checked Google for a few minutes earlier and couldn't find anything, maybe this guy was just lucky and got one early, it looks like that one that was announced a few weeks ago (had the thread here about it).

Anything Pentium & above is capable of running XP. I know a man who runs XP on his P233MMX w/ 80MB of RAM.

Interesting. I don't think that it is intended to be an impressive mod, only a quick demo to show off the PicoITX platform that store is selling (Japan gets all the cool stuff first

). I'd expect one of their customers to take up the idea and do it a lot better.

The USB ports look good, but whoever did the mod skimped on doing the rest nicely.

I don't think the main point here is whether or not it looks good, the main point is that that is a full pc that you can carry in your pocket.

There are lots of full PC's that fit in a pocket. The OQO, the Vaio UX series, Libretto's come pretty close- maybe a cargo pants pocket.

I have long liked the idea of a PC inside a GBO case, except it would need batteries, screen, and controls as others here have mentioned.

Not bad, I could imagine playing some games on that, although a GBO screen would be far too small for PC games.

Yeah I have to admit the USB look good, but if you're going to do a case mod don't go half way and just stop.

If that was the main point why bother doing a (poor) case mod? Besides isn't the Gumstick or the Nano-itx around that size?
