Another day, another I'm leaving topic...

So this site turns out to be less of a paridice I once thought it was. I joined thinking that I would see a ton of hardware mods that would shatter all concepts of thinking when it comes to videogame systems. And I did, for the first few weeks untill I really started to notice the problems with this site. It seems members with astronomicly high post counts seem to lead the bandwagon around here. Whenever a new person joins it seems his entire reputation depends on how the suprime members like him, regardless of who he was or his intellegence. Another problem seems to be the "perfect" identity so many members around here try to have, especially in debates. Example: Nintendo Vs. Sony Vs. Microsoft Vs. Sega fanboys. I know at least 75% of you have a favorite company but whenever such a situation comes up 75% of you say it is stupid to have a favorite company, making the last 25% of honest posters look like idiots!

But there are sparkling parts to this forum that seem to outshine the rest. The "noobs" that join these forums are immediatly noticed and ridiculed, while the "newbs" are intelligent people that join the forum looking for serious conversation with other intelligent people.

I don't know what kind of reputation I am sporting right now but I can tell you one thing about my short blip of an existance on these forums. I was perfectly honest about everything I said and I presented all of my own opinions wether I thought they would make me look good or not. I'm 14. I have never finished a portable, I'm a Sega fanboy, and I beleive in communism as a viable form of government. Do I care that many of the people on this site don't agree? No. But it's apperent to me that most of the other members do care and are completly silent to their own opinion just so they can be seen in positive light. The best summery of my problem here is that the conversations are as dull as can be because the members with sub 1000 posts are terrified to show their own opinion.

I might return once in a while to post in a real conversation but for the most part you won't see much of me anymore.

I'm sorry you feel this way. You have to realize that most forums tend to be exactly what you've described.

As for the sony fanboyism and love of communism, etc. You're definitely allowed to have your own opinions, but if you're going to share your opinions, you should probably be prepared to defend them. There is always going to be someone out there that is going to disagree with you, some will be jerks and call you names and ridicule you for your opinions, others will simply give their reason they disagree, you should really learn how to deal with both.

Who honestly cares about post counts? If it were up to me I'd just hide them.

Sorry to see you go. You do have a point though, the <s>discussions</s> arguments are rather monotonous, we're in a hack drought, and anyone will e-strangle anyone else over differences in opinion.

It's sad, really.

ok, ok, I now realize you are calling the forum communism.

I dont agree with this,its not really communism.
But it is kind of strict around here, compared to other forums at least. but then again, the only other forum I use are RFgen and digitpress, which mostly contain people that are older.

so this "communism" you speak of is kind of necassary I guess.

I just mean I wouldn't leave the forum over some of his points. Every forum I'm on is like that. Also, this is the most welcoming/helpful forum I've seen.

If you can't deal with the imperfections, you might as well leave.
This forum has its flaws, but I bet it would be almost impossible to find another forum this nice with this intelligence level. No one has ever said anything about posts = reputation, if you either make cool stuff, have great ideas, or are helpful, that is what gets you reputation. Posts can help, but I'd listen to someone with 100 posts over someone with 5000 if they knew what they were talking about.

Actually i think a lot of the stuff he is saying is true. Im a lot newer and it seems the higher post people push me and other noobs around a lot. But im not going to say any more and just finish with see yeah around man....

Meh, this forums fine for me. Im kind of bummed about the shortage of mods recently but i havent contributed anything so i cant really complain. Anyway I cant find any better forums anywhere so ill be here for awhile. Im sick of these im going away and going to complain about it threads that are more frequently coming up. If you have a reason like "I have a social life now" or "this forum isnt my thing anymore" or "going to college" or you just slowly dissappear fine by me, but its pointless just to crap on the forum and its members, its just annoying. Also about the higher post count, most people in here with higher post counts have made a portable or two and/or have some real experience, but that doesnt mean if you have a high post count you automatically have authority over everyone. Look at members like dkap01 im pretty sure his post count is low but when he posts something its awesome or a portable so its all cool.

I remember I got flamed some when I first started, but thats because I usually started flame wars, had horrible grammar, and occasionally posted stories about the hamburglar.

It's just sad you can't get past the flaws of the few and focus on the big picture; I agree with Vskid about the theme of reputation; it's not the post count, it's the character. People like you, though you may not have many posts, are here to learn, be a part of the community, and speak intelligibly. I know there are certain people who are called out on these forums when they're new; not BECAUSE they are new, but because they are intolerant and ignorant to the rules. Few even read them anymore before posting. So farewell, hopefully some day you can come back and not be so bothered by these imperfections.

that is not even close to the truth, for one postcount doesnt count for crap here, the people with the "astronomically" high post counts have said postcounts because they have been here for YEARS, many like myself almost day one! because we have been active members of the forum for so long and many of us are moderators we do have some degree of influence and power. i have NEVER seen a noob who posts in an intelligent and reasonable fashion be flamed just because they are a noob, noobs get flamed when they are retarded, cant type or have horrible grammar.

dude, what? that makes almost no sense at all. people show their opinions all the damn time and if they dont its their choice, we dont intimidate people into submission or anything around here
