PSOne LCD 7805

Did anyone ever find out what the 7805 on the PSOne screen does or if it can run on 5v? I really want to get one cause they are ultra cheap on eBay but the whole 5 or 6 AA thing annoys me.
Does anyone have the dimensions of the screen case?

The closest to 5v you get for running the PSOne screen is 6v. In order to do that you have to replace the two 7805s with two LDO that are rated at an input of 6v.

On this same matter you can't just put 5 volts at the outputs of the reg's either... something else needs 7 volts.

What I was wondering (haven't tried it yet though) is if you remove the 2 7805s and tie their inputs and outputs together and just input 5V where you normally input 7.2V if it'd work. It should as long as the components before the 7805 don't need at least 7.2V

Well it would work, but, like you said, only if components before the regs need 5+ volts.

On this same matter you can't just put 5 volts at the outputs of the reg's either... something else needs 7 volts.

CRUD. I was about to do that. Now I have no idea where/what to wire. Could you possibly tell me how you wired your PS one screen? Like if you used a 7.5V regulator and just used the normal input, or is there a special place to wire 5V, or what?

I figured as much. I just didn't know if anyone was brave enough to replace them and see if the screen would run on 5v. As I barely have enough to buy the screen it will be highly unlikely that I will be experimenting with it.

Also does anyone know the dimensions of the case? Yeah, I could just wait till I buy it but I kinda want to know how big it will be.

I believe that the 7.2v goes into a bunch of ICs on the board, although I'm not sure if they can run on 5v. I know they can't run off more than 9v or so, though

Eh, I don't think it runs off 5 volts. Seems like I've tried this before... bypassing the 2 5+ volt regs.... SOMETHING takes 7+ volts...

You could use a step-up converter to get 7v for the rest of the stuff... but that is a bit tricky as well.

That actually makes it easier for me. Now I don't have to do any weird wiring.
