Another potential NES to portabalize!

Hey I've never seen one of these before. Does anybody know anything about it?

If anyone rips the guts out of that NES I will be sure to make sure they dont have any guts left either. The 101 NES is much like the SNES mini except much much rarer.

This is a legitimate NES. Redesigned with size in mindd. I'd kill you if ou ripped the guts out too.

Yeah i saw one of those at my local pawn shoppe, was gunna buy it but dident know it was so valuable at the time.

It's not that uber rare where you'll never see one again, but yes, it is rare enough where you shouldn't mess around with it (besides adding an a/v mod)

Lawl, enough of the 'gut-ripping if you touch it' BS. These things aren't rare. I've found two of them in ONE store in rural Japan ...

They're just called a Famicom instead of a NES and have an AV jack on them rather than just the RF modulator output. Internally though the guts are the same right down to most of the PCB layout.

Nope not rare at all in Japan and a Famicom. But we're talking about a USA toploader which is kind of rare now and it IS quite different. The motherboard in the toploader is a lot smaller.

Not rare where I come from. Look an ebay- they only slightly uncommon and the prices are actually pretty low, wen you think of things like the Neo Geo AES, which is truly rare. I've seen plenty of top loading NES units go for well under $20. So, if you want to buy it and rip it open, good for you. You have to go against the grain if you want to get greatness. Besides, if you used that smaller board you could then play cool games like Castlevania 3 without sound issues and still keep the project pretty small. I say, go for it!

Oh yeah, one thing too- the AV famicom from Japan has a mobo that's even smaller than the USA toploader, I'm looking at getting one of those.

Internet pricing always makes me laugh. I saw a site selling boxed (not new) Famicom model HVC-001s for $150! I picked one up at the store a couple weeks ago for $15 in the same shape. :rolleyes:

I will say this though, the boards are smaller and the systems aren't exactly 'rare' but if it's going to be used in a portable the size of a copulate basketball it's a waste of a good machine. None of the original FCs are small enough to use standalone in a handheld no matter how much cutting and shaving you do and in the end it will be a waste of a good machine. Now if it were a hell of a lot smaller to begin with it might be a whole different story. But I've got an "AV Famicom"'s board in my hands right now and it could never be an effective portable. A disgustingly huge one maybe. But then it's better left a home console the way it was intended.

Better project: Take the 2A03, PPU and other major components off a more common system like a NES with a bad 72-pin connector and attach them to a breadboard, make the necessary connections with thin wire like from shredded IDE cables etc and then pack that into a reasonable-sized handheld, like something the size of Game Gear or smaller. Not a terribly difficult project and the end product will be at least worthy of the sum of its parts, not just something thrown together that decreases the playability of what it was before.

thats a nes 2 its the same as nes but without all the power issues and stuff like that, its an american released system that plays nes carts
