Heal rubber squeeze ball!

My bike has an awesome vintige air horn with a rubber squeeze ball that I love to honk at people, but it got so old that the rubber itself cracked and now it can't honk the horn. Being the cheapass money saver that I am (I screwed together my broken $1 flips flops), I'm reluctant to go out to a store and blow a whopping $5 on a new one and would rather fix the one I have. Is there anything I can patch up the crack with? Tire repair stuff, caulk, anything?

depending on the material a nice thin liquid latex might be the best solution. you know, the flexible body paint--assuming you're old enough to get somewhere that sells it.

of course that stuff is generally more expensive than the item you're trying to repair, but it's probably pretty close to the substance it was made from.

I'm liking the rubber cement idea. I would use duct tape, but it'd get rid of the sweet vintage look

You could spray some aerosol adhesive in the inside... Or maybe stretch a balloon around the outside or something.

Once rubber like that starts to deteriorate there isn't much you can do to fix it.
