Perfecting Paint Finish?

I have a nicely painted case. But in some places it's more textured and in other places it's more smooth and glossy. 600 grit sandpaper just isn't cutting it.

Any suggestions? Ub3r fine sandpaper? Steel Wool? How to I make the paint finish more uniform?

wetsanding with 800-1000grit works nice and gets stuff SMOOTH

I'm using 600 right now, it's the best I got. I think I'll pick up some thousand grit later on in the week.
