Windows Media Center Help

Post by HotDog-Cart »

Hey, when I first got my computer about a month ago, I set up windows media center. I havnt used it since, and now I cannot find it on my computer. Its not in my start menu, or quick startmenu.

I'm pretty sure I did NOT uninstall at. As I dont have the disk, and I would never do that if I didnt have the install disk. (The program was pre-installed on my laptop).

Can Someone help?

EDIT: Also, does anyone know any good DVD burning programs? I want to burn a .avi file onto a DVD, so I can watch it on my TV using my DVD player. Nero wont work, neither will windows media player. (Windows media CENTER will but like I said, I cant find it).

For some reason, its not in there. How do I re-install it if I do not have the CD or CD key? (They never came with the brand new laptop)

Hmm, Big problem here according to MDG. Somehow my windows is corrupted, as theres no way I could have really uninstalled media center, as its required by media center edition.

I've tried repairing my pc. Last option to do is just well, Format and re-install.

DIKO works well for me. Sometimes the audio gets out of synch though, when that happens, I use Nero.

Legally, you can't. Why do you want Windows media center though? I found it annoying the 2 days I had Vista before I went back to XP. I'd recommend Nero for all of your burning, and if Nero can't burn some of the ISO's, get Power ISO.

Your key might be on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop. (It is on my HP...)

What do you mean you "can't find it"? The shortcuts are gone?

Try searching your hard drive for a folder called "ehome". (If I remember correctly it's in the Windows directory, but plug it into the search function to be sure.) Inside there should be a program file with the green Windows Media logo. Run it.

He can't find his XP disc, so the key wouldn't help. (unless you called your manufactor and asked for a new disc [It woked for my friend who has a dell]) You could convert the .avi to a supported file type (many of them) and then burn it to DVD with Nero. If you really still want Media Center, check your Add/Remove Programs again, and read every one of them (could be Windows Media Center, or Microsoft Windows Media Center, etc.) Also, do a cntrl-f in My Computer for "Media Center" and see what comes up.
