The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Ken Kutaragi, creator of Sony's PlayStation console line, has stepped down from his post at the company.

While it was originally expected to give Sony new momentum, PS3 sales were ultimately disappointing, and according to the Wall Street Journal article, the company is now dealing with $2 billion in losses related to its video games division over the past year (ending March 31.)

Sony CEO Howard Stringer has famously been reshuffling the company's executive lineup since last fall.

I kind of have mixed feelings on this as he was THE driving force of the PS1 and PS2 which were pure magic but the PS3.....ehh...I wonder where Sony will go with the PS3 from here.

Yeah, the PSone and PS2 were both awesome, but Ken Kutaragi went extremely retarded and arrogant.

If Sony doesn't decided to cease as a player in the gaming wars, I'm interested in how they will improve on the PS3.

...Oh wait, no I'm not! Same controller, more processing power!!!

No I think the PS3 is taking a step to the specialty PC department. The PS3 is more PC then gaming console and I think it's more likely that they will capitalize on this. Namely games like World of Warcraft and other games that can not be played without a keyboard or mouse will start being ported or exclusive releases for the PS3.

Sony likely is doing what Nintendo is doing and that is capture more of the gaming market by expanding the reach of the system. The problem with that is that when you do that so abruptly it throws many people off, most being fans of the old. I don't think this is a bad change but again, it was so fast that it threw the old scheme of things and how they were making money for Sony out of wack, so now they're just screwing themselves.
