Cool tricks that you can do on windows computers.

Anyone know of any cool tricks that can be done on windows computers. I will make a list of them here so that you can learn cool tricks. :Lol:.

Here is the list I will up date it if someone tells me of a good trick.

1. Windows dos messenger. Go to star then all programs, accessories, command prompt and then type â€œnet sendâ€

1. Disable the Themes service from loading at startup to really confuse people who still use Windows XP's <s>Tinkertoy</s> Luna theme

2. Write up a shutdown batch file and put it in the Startup folder.

3. Fake pop-ups.

4. (Hit-and-run trick) Create a DOS boot floppy that automatically loads an aincent, un-closeable game off the disk. Pick a target and boot it from the disk. After it's loaded take the disk out and move it to the next computer. (I used Dig Dug, so you'd add digdug.exe to the autoexec.bat file) The only wayu to exit the game is to reboot. It's hilarious to watch people HAMMER escape, space, Alt+Tab...

5. "break" software by redirecting Start Menu shortcuts to other programs. (Preferably, a small VB.NET app you wrote that generates a random, yet legitimate-looking, error message.)

Seriously, learn how to make simple programs in VB. It's amazing how little you need to know about programming to make harmless mischiefware. Just remember to not really break anything, especially if you're the one who will have to fix it!

how would i make that dos game disk.
and i tryed makeing an error message. but i made it in the
word vb will it still work and how do isave just program

1. Right click on the default Internet Explorer icon and from the drop down select "Create Shortcut"

2. Delete the original icon, leaving only the shortcut on the desktop

3. Right Click the IE shortcut and rename it "Internet Explorer" instead of the default "Shortcut to Internet Explorer"

4. Right click the IE shortcut and redirect its target to some annoying file or folder of your choosing (mine was a batch file that shuts the computer down on a timer along with an annoying message.

You can obviously do this all the other shortcuts as well, but my experience is that people typically go for IE all the time so that;s wgat I pick.

Second, but not as effective, is to make the screen saver appear to be a BSOD:

1. Just create a folder somewhere out of the way and put a full screen image of a BSOD in it.

2. Go to control panel > display > screen saver, select My pictures Slideshow", click settings and browse for the folder with the BSOD image in it and select that as the folder to get pictures from, set pictures to appear as 100% of screen and set the interval to 1 min.

Now whenever the computer is left alone it will appear to generate a BSOD. Selecting the "On resume, password protect" is also fun since when someone tries to operate the BSOD it will lock them out (assuming they don't know the password)

Ooh! This one's good but it requires XP:

1. Press "Print Screen"
2. Open Paint and paste. Save the image as lol.PNG in the C drive's root directory (or if you have access, C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\)
3. Right-click the Desktop and select Properties
4. In the Wallpaper tab, set the wallpaper to C:\lol.PNG
5. Click Apply, then click OK.
6. Right click the desktop again, go in the "Arrange Icons by" submenu, and click "show icons on desktop"

The "icons" won't work but the Start menu will! Freaky, huh?

If you really want to mess with peoples' heads, move the taskbar to the top of the screen and set it to auto-hide.

Now the "Start menu" won't work either!

One thing I made awhile back but never fully tested/deployed was a cd/floppy with an autoexec which would print pages full of black squares (in an infinite loop of course

Ohoho, even better is having it print from all the printers on your school's network, and start it from a machine that isn't used much, with someone elses account. Getting caught would really suck, depending on how many reams of paper you went through, but it would only be about 1 per printer, so not terribly bad.

@bic, I think that would work on any version of Windows, just delete the icons. Or set up another monitor in Windows but without a physical one and drag all the icons there.

For my tip, swap the connectors for keyboards, mice, and/or monitors of computers next to each other. Best done at school or some place with many similar computers in close proximity.
And for you people that can't get Portable Firefox working on your school/work computers because you don't know the proxy, File>Import and get the connection settings for IE. Then change the connection to the appropriate one in the connection settings of Firefox.
If you can, it would be cool to install a VNC program on school computers or other computers with multiple users, and then freak people out and take over their computer.

If you need to find a computer that doesn't require logging in or is already logged in, the library computers are usually just standard computers with fullscreen library catalog. You can just somehow get out of that and then do whatever you want without it being linked to your ID.

EDIT: Realized it's not easy to tell that I am referring to school libraries.

take a pic of your desk top using printscrn. then save it. set it as the back ground. Then delete all the actual icons.

we used to do it at school before they disabled our ability to make backgrounds.

we would do the same thing if we got error messages.

Run > Regedit

HKEY_Current_User\Control Panel\Desktop

Change ShowMenuDelay to 100. Any less & it will just make the start menu annoying.

Also mess w/ any other values in that folder that you might like. If you're a n00b at the Windows registry, though, I wouldn't change anything else.
