Found Lynx - Will Screen Work w/ 2600?

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Found Lynx - Will Screen Work w/ 2600?

Post by A.J. Franzman »

I have a chance to buy an Atari Lynx, but I don't want one. However, I was thinking I might be able to use the screen in my Atari 2600 portable. Does anyone know if the Lynx screen accepts composite video? If not, would somebody here want the Lynx in trade for a screen I could use?

Thanks. I just found a post suggesting the same thing at AA, and looking at the schematic there I agree but not 100% sure yet. Also, the unit I found turns out to be a Lynx II, not the original. There is a padded case and a big D-cell power adapter thing and a few games with it. Seller wants $5 (working condition unknown to me), should I get it for trade? What do they typically sell for if working?

I haven't heard anything but it being digital, from seeing posts on the old board to me even asking a while back (come to think of it, I'll bet that was one of my first 10 or 20 posts)

I'll be honest with you - I would have never guessed that.

Well, it might not be digital, but I meant to say its probably not worth the effort getting the screen to work.

I think I'll bring some batteries with me tomorrow and get it if it works. Anyone here willing to swap me a good usable screen for it? I want a TFT screen w/ composite in, anywhere between 2.5 and 5.5 inches diagonal, with at least 100k pixels resolution.

Well, bigger is better, but I will consider it if I don't get any better offers.
