I don't quite get what you mean by the roms, but the screen would be too difficult for it to be worth it, if it is even possible.

no, he knows (at least, I'm pretty sure he does). I think it's just that he doesn't understand how you would use/play roms in the iPod shuffle (and neither do I). could you explain, please?
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

yup. that's it. If you mean using ROMs for things like the Genesis, SNES, NES, or even 2600, it's not gonna happen.

Actually the iPod is cheaper than the no-name knockoff's! I was at Bowler's this weekend (a local wholesale computer fair) and the cheapest 1Gig Mp3 stick was about £135 (the iPod is £99 for comparison).

Apple must want to have complete control over the portable mp3 player market.

Apple has about 70% (or more) market share in the hard-drive based MP3 market. For a long time they said they wouldn't make a flash based player because they didn't see the point, guess they changed their mind to grab market share in the only sector they wern't in! It seems to be working as well with the Shuffle being on 3 to 4 weeks backorder from the Apple online store, and waiting lists in most of the bricks-and-mortar stores. I'm seriously thinking of getting one myself when things calm down.

If you saw the macworld keynote you'de know thats exactly what Apple is doing. They already got the hard drive based mp3 player market, so now there going in after the flash based ones.

Hey, I'm not left-handed schoolteacher with a guitar or anything (inside Mac joke) but I do admit Apple always come up with new ideas only to have them ripped off by others who make all the money. It's about time they invent a market and then keep it!

Besides the iPod style is clean and neat, with most the other players looking like gaudy crap leftover from the 90's.

Oh, and RE: flash memory: I think they were just waiting til the price came down. Back when the iPod first came out a 1 gig flash player woulda cost more than the hard drive version! Heck, 3 years ago a 64 meg flash card cost $100! But now things have changed...

...just wait til they get that magnetic memory they talked about on the History Channel!

oh yeah, I forgot about that. Apparently it keeps the info after being turned off, so you could boot up your computer instantly.
