Whats so good about the GP2X?

I just had a look on the website and saw it looked pretty awesome. I might get one. Can anyone tell me the specs and stuff you can put on it? I own 2 psp's and one of them is running 3.10 OE-A so i can play homebrew on that, but is it worth getting a GP2X?

If you already have a PSP running homebrew, you'll probably only be dissapointed by the build quality, lesser capabilities, and operating inconveniences of the GP2x. The GP2X offers no more homebrew, and even less emulation capabilities, than the PSP. A few people here do own and enjoy the GP2X, as you might if you get it.

This is me speaking without emotion; only cold hard logic and facts. Any attempt to portray the GP2X as "better" in terms of homebrew support or hardware capabilities can only be the result of fanboyism. I've got nothing against people who enjoy the 2x, so long as they don't lie to themselves and others about it in comparison to the PSP.

the GP2X i'm pretty sure you can only find online, atleast none of the stores in my area nor in any gaming store i've ever been in have they sold them.

Well, not really. Having owned both, I must say, the GP2x's emulation of older consoles and PCs is of a higher caliber than that of the PSP, though not as wide a spectrum. And the homebrew for the GP2x is also a bit more vibrant than that of the PSPs community, but that's just a personal opinion. Though I must agree that if you already own a PSP running homebrew/emu just fine, then buying a GP2x wouldn't make sense, unless you wanted to save money on your storage medium.

EDIT: Whoops, almost forgot to mention the [url=http://www.gp2xstore.com/products/Gp2x_ ... 1.htmlGP2X CRADLE!!![/url] Gives your GP2x the ability to do... well, just about everything a PC running Linux does. Pretty neat, if you're tech-savvy or like A/V-out and multiplayer.

with the recent drop in PSP prices to $169, and expansion of homebrew on that system, 2x is really looking a bit shabby with its large variety of severe problems.

now, I really hate to fight on 2x's side (since I hate mine), but there are positives to the 2x versus the PSP. mainly the usb host (storage, additional controllers, etc) and the TV out. IMO the screen on GP2x is also superior to PSP's, especially in terms of refresh rate, native resolution and aspect ratio.

the new $50 cradle for GP2X also looks really neat.

however most of 2x's neat external features don't help it be a better *handheld* at all. rather they tie you to an array of additional devices.

I have another question: I know GP2x Can run Linux, GTA 1&2 and Doom 1&2. But I am wondering if the PSP can do it too?

since when can it run gta games? unless it's really recent, gp2x is stuck with payback instead (which actually is pretty hot on that system)

now gba can run gta and doom games--maybe you should look into it. it's vastly superior to the gp2x in almost every way I can think of.

now if there were just a cradle and usb host for it too...

i would hardly call the scope of GP2xs emulation "limited" considering it can do pretty much every system pre playstation with little problem, some of the emulators need work but from my experience most work very well and quite a few are updated VERY frequently. but i would have to agree if you already have a PSP running homebrew the gp2x doesnt offer very many advantages aside from the massivly cheaper storage and ability to run divx and xvid without conversion and easily replaceable AA batteries. the ONLY gripe i have about the lcd is it isnt direct light readable, briht light makes it hard or impossible to see, but my laptop screen is the same way lol.

id stay with ur psp I own a psp and ive read a lot about the 2x and its advantages if any in homebrew are very small...and to answer the person who asked if u can play doom on the psp yes and at full speed w/sound

Edit...Im not sure if the 2x can do this but psp also plays ps1 games at full speed no problem and n64 games though mostly only mario 64 right now
